The NZD/USD exchange rate is good at the moment (NZD$1.00=USD$0.80) so I'm thinking of ordering the following:
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
Canon 430EX Speedlite
Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2
All this will cost US$1570 (inc shipping) from B&H while just the lens will cost around US$1460 to buy in NZ (not buying grey imports). This is a lot of money to us poor Kiwis so I need some good reasons not to do this.
The tough thing is that my wife has already said "you have the dosh, why not you have lusted after it for a while now" so my usual reason not to buy does not exist.
Help!

| If you have the go ahead from the boss why should you hesitate? and it makes economic sense if you have the money set aside. |

OK, I'm gonna save you some money. Just order the lense and the st-e2, send them to my address. I already have a 550EX so I don't need the flash.
Sound OK? |

Hey Gerry,
Wow - you have the same camera and same lenses I do, and want the same lens I do! I am in your boat, man!
The main difference is, your images kick the crap out of mine. =) T'would be a shame for them (your images, that is) to go without.
Seriously, though, I will pay for mine through side jobs - otherwise my wife would not even let me imagine it. On my better days, I imagine that the 28-135 IS (for ~$400) would fulfill my desire to some extent, or I think about the 17-40 (~$679)... but in the end, after re-reading the reviews, I always fall back to the 24-105.
It's a thing of pure beauty.
Sorry I can't be of help! If you buy it, please let me know if it's all you dreamed of, or if I should go for the 17-40. =)
-Jeff

Gerry - DO IT! Life is short - GRIN - especially if you have spousal support (as do I - SMILE!)
Meanwhile, I'm too looking offshore to purchase the Canon 10-22mm - the exchange rate in Australia is AWESOME for once!
However I've not purchased from anywhere O/S before and am wondering if you get stuck with import tax & GST?
Can any Australians help out please? Maybe suggest reputable & reliable companies to explore.
Thanks in advance,
Lisa

It's easy, just give B&H your credit card number. They do the hard part of contacting your credit card company and having the charged added to your account. Simple! :-)

It's a trap. Your wife is just testing you to see what you will do. Don't fall for it or you will end up spending even more money to get back on her good side. She's messing with you, I'm telling you.
;D

I wonder where Gerry's at... His profile says he now has the 24-105 f4L, but he hasn't posted any pics with it.
What are your impressions, Gerry? Show us some shots! =)

Yep, I got my new toys but haven't really had a chance to play with them. It's mid winter here so daytime is limited and if I look out my office window now it is alsmost pitch black with rain!
I'll post some pics soon (hopefully I'll enter the Stones challenge if I can shoot after work tonight). |

Sorry, I can not in my right mind try to convince you to spend money YOU know that you want to spend anyway.
I just spent $2K on a laptop, and am planning in the next 2 years on spending between $5K & $7K on an upgraded desk top.
So I say, JUST DO IT!!!!!
