Its new computer time...

Do I pay cash and get a nice pc (I know a decent amount about computers, so I know what to look for etc) or do I finally bite the bullet and finance a Mac g5, in light of the fact that Ill be using/learning on a Mac in school?

Great debate? What about:

Abortion vs Pro-Life?
Film vs Digital?
Nikon vs Canon?

Your question is nothing to debate. This is American. Where would we be without credit. Finance it and pay it off with student loans. Then spend the next 30 years paying $20 a month.

(I think I've just paid off my student loans after about 10 years.)

I have to agree that Mac G5 seems the way to go, but then you are spending the money or getting credit, not me :))

You know what you want, what you really, really want! So get it.

The debate isn't whether to finance or not, its Mac or PC.

MAC would put me on a whole new learning curve that I dont know if I feel like dealing with, not to mention the process of re-obtaining all the software that I have for my PC - including CS3 (whatever the highest priced one is)

Just a quick correction, Mac G5s are no longer manufactured or sold. You'll be getting a geniune "intel inside" Macintosh. Flipping fast and the best OS in the known universe (but you can still run windows if you insist).

No way to go wrong.

Ford, Canon, PC, Choice, Digital

OK... I've answered all those debates. Anymore?

Your software concerns are valid, unless ofcourse you want to run Windows (snicker) on your new Mac, which seems a bit counter productive.

I think that's going to depend more on the software that you'll be using rather than the platform they are running on.

Ill be using Photoshop for sure, I know that much. I guess it will also just give me an opportunity to really try out a Mac, my experience with them is quite limited, so ill be able to compare my workflow on the lab mac to my home pc and see which I prefer.

But no matter what happens, i wont forget my roooootz.

Oh - and Meth totally wins over Coke, unless were in 1985 and any of us are in the brat pack.

Photoshop is pretty much the same on either a PC or a Mac.

Functionally, maybe. But nothing is the same on PC as it is on a Mac. ;-)

Once you go Mac you never go back!

you can pretty much run everything you want on a PC , on the mac you have to buy software dedicated to mac. accordingly i chose PC.
in photoshop the difference is on my Pc it takes about 8 sec to load up , on the mac about 2 so if you think that those 6 sec are worth the extra money go for it.

on another note, with the same amount you are about to spend on a mac, you can get a loaded PC.

that's just my 2 cents...

When has that ever mattered? Intel, AMD, Motorola,

I was speaking more to the user experience OS, security and stability.

Updated your virus list lately? ;-)

All in good fun!
