| i have been more than happy with my first dSLR and i want to make it last a while. its my canon reble xti of course. but as time has gone on ive noticed a decrease of quality in performance from when it was new. ive leaned a ton and my pictures are imporoving but no matter how carful i am i notice this continuing decrease in performance. i run a canon EF 70-200 f/4L USM and it has more than improved my images for sports but the more time goes by the more i seem to notice the cons of what ever i shoot. ill take the upmost care in setting up a shot and take test shots for lighting but i still notice blur where i focus and more burnt pixles that usual on a bright sunny day with ISO 100. could it be time to get it cleaned by a shop? i mostly shoot mountainbiking and that involves a LOT of dust floating in the air and i have no idea how to properly disasemble a camera and clean it. or could it just be my eyes becomming more trained and there for noticing the flaws? |

| Take a shot of a white piece of paper with you aperture set to F22. If the result looks like a snow leopard, it is time to send it in for a cleaning (or do it yourself). |

I think that is probably the case. Other than sensor dust, there shouldn't be any degradation in the image quality over time.

It can't hurt to clean it. If it's just simple dust, a small blower will do the trick fairly well. If that doesn't work then a more serious cleaning will be required. Overall, the quality shouldn't change with time. If it really does, there are some more serious issues at hand.
