I only started this thread 'cause I found myself embroiled in a couple of conversations lately about the "Inevitable" need to get a better camera than the one I have. I just don't see it.

I like what I have and the results I get with it. I have a D70s, an 18-70 Nikon lens, and a 55-200 Nikon lens. I really want the 18-200 VR lens so that I really only have one lens for virtually all my needs. Sure, I would love to have some other lenses here and there over the years probably, but......

I have now been on two GTGs, and have seen the massive amount of gear some folks lug along. The last thing I want when I'm out and about is to be changing lenses and carrying a bag full of stuff. It's just not what I want out of my photography. Maybe my standards are lower, but I have so much fun when I don't have to figure out where to put all that stuff.

I don't think that I am the right kind of photographer to have all the bells and whistles simply because I don't want to be governed by the amount of stuff I'm carrying.......I'd rather risk the possibility that the compromise may cost me that rare shot rather than plan my whole life around the possibility that I *might* get that one-in-a-million shot.

I do carry my camera around most of the time, and I've gotten some great stuff because I do, and I think with the 18-200 VR it'll be even better for me.

What I do not understand is what the better bodies are going to get me that would make me want to change from this D70s that I totally love. It fits my hand so perfectly that I can even spin both my aperture and shutter dials with one hand and the way the thing lays when I carry it makes it feel like an extension of my body more than an externnal appliance. And that feel is very imnportant to me.......without it, I don't think I'd be so inclined to carry it with me.

So I really feel that with everything I know, have heard, and have seen through my own usage that my D70s will pretty much be a permanent part of my life 'til it just wears out. I feel fortunate in finding something that I am just so darn happy with and I cannot imagine changing it for any reason.

I am constantly amazed at the ease of use, its versatility, and the incredible detail I get with this camera. I'd love to hear from others who have found their Perfect Setup just so I don't feel quite so odd to be in a place where I'm so very happy with what I have.

Edited for fat fingers.....

Hmm. Three bodies and half a dozen lens buy/sells later, I too have found the yin-yang of my setup.

If what you've got is working for you, you're all set. I don't think it means you have low standards.

I am with you all the way... Use what works, simple is safe and most important of all is that YOU are happy with what you got.

Even a blind pig finds an acorn every now and then!.....8>)

I did a little research before I got the D70s and when it was time to buy, I had it narrowed to the Canon Rebel XTi and the D70s. I was actually leaning toward the Canon having had an A-1 forever, but I was surprised how dinky it was. It really did not fit in my hand.

The D70s does......perfectly!

I am with you too..my D70 is with me for more than 2 yrs now, and I am very content with it and no question abt its build..super.
The only time I feel that I might upgrade is when I think that I could print a little bigger without the hassle of upsizing :), but that's too rare and I dont see myself buying a new body in coming 2-3 Yrs.

I'm with you guys as well but don't be dis-illusioned that you body is going to be with you forever. There is this thing called shutter clicks and MTBF. I just went over 50,000 shutter releases, I'm starting to think of what to do when the time comes...

I love mine and I think it is great. The only thing I wish for is cleaner images at high ISO. I've shot 2 wedings recently and have 3rd one coming up. I'm considering move to D200 or whatever next will come out.

Good luck and don't upgrade just because someone tells you.
