Windows search feature does not seem to have the capability to recognize words within a PDF file. Is there another program or utility that can do this? Instead of keeping the old filing cabinet full of journal articles, I keep all my articles on my computer. However, the "library" is getting rather full and it would be nice if I could search for words within an article rather than just the title.

Any ideas?

You need a software program to do it, windows cant do it, cause technically a pdf is an image file, it doesnt store it as words. Look for OMNIPAGE pro or another OCR Archive package.

You know this leads me to another problem I'm having with my reader. Every time I start up, about 20 seconds later I get the text "You must restart your system before you do another update". However, my system has been restarted dozens of times since I started getting this error.

Any ideas or am I stuck reinstalling?

Have you run spybot or adaware recently? If not, you may try doing that before reinstalling Adobe Reader.

It's possible that something in the registry has been corrupted so reinstalling Adobe Reader might be the only option.

I did a repair on Reader and it is working now. That managed to download the update which allows windows to interpret the words in PDFs. Thanks for all your help.

I'm going to run a spyware program now, but I rarely find stuff. Hope it's still clean.

I've used adaware before, but currently use Windows Defender.
