Do you know where your children are?
07/12/2007 11:56:44 PM · #2
Wow, time flies. The kids should be closer. :)

Do locked threads completely disappear after a time?

That "whoosh" sound you just heard was this thread going right over my head.

It has been a while but if my memory serves me correct I think it has something to do with twins???

Well, that did cross my mind, but I didn't see what children have to do with it.

I found the thread. July 31st is the anniversary.

Oh, for Pete's sake. For the many of you who are lost, there was a guy named Rikki who got busted a year ago for having 30 or so friends vote his pictures a 10.

I'm not trying to restart the many debates his actions sparked, but I see no harm in naming names at this stage, if only to help people know what this thread is about.

For those who might not know that Joe's one-character post was actually a link to the relevant thread, here it is bigger and easier to click on.

I recommend that before anyone starts discussing this, they read at least most of that thread. Pretty much everything that could be said was said there.

Aha...I thought we were speaking of the one whose name we can't mention, because we're coming up on the one year anniversary of their final identity!

Has anyone been in contact with this guy? Does he plan to come back?

He was all the rage when I first joined DPC. Then the hammer fell.

I kind of hope he does return. I am curious to see how he scores with out the help of all his little friends.

The internetz are serious biznes!

Just out of curiosity, on the average, what are people making off of dpcprints (money wise) People in that thread are talking like they lost thousands.

I was searching the word "recalculated". :)

This thread is just a bit of fun. I talk to him now and then and I don't think he has current plans to return. That can always change of course.

He still busy shooting? I'd like to see what he's done in a year.

Head over to EyeFetch. He's on admin over there now.

I just reread a bit of last year's thread, and I have to say I'm delighted at something I wrote. I think my prediction was right on target. The last year has seen friend voting rooted out and one WPL team caught cheating, so I continue to be happy with the SC and admins. And seeing this thread, I did think about what happened for about 5 seconds and then moved on. :)

On the impact on the site
Short-term, it'll make us all stop and think.

Long-term (say, a year from now), I think we'll all think "oh, right. Rikki. What a jerk/sad-sack case/self-centered cheating scumbag." And then the 5 seconds will end and we'll go about our business.

And if nothing else, the SC, the admins, and the site's integrity overall has been shown to be excellent. A terrible scam was uncovered and dealt with. Confirms my faith in all of the decision makers here.
