| Is it possible to have two versions of IE7 on the same machine? I'm going to give my laptop to my neighbors while I'm gone (and if they get the hang of it, let 'em keep it) but would like to install IE7 in German if possible. |

I doubt it but you should be able to change the local language settings?
On XP you can actually get IE 5.0/5.5 to run seperatly you cant install it you have to copy the folder from a machine with it. But 6 and 7 i have tried and cant figure it out.
You can also give them a German language version of another browser if for some reason you cant set the locla language in IE7.

| Not possible. You aren't installing different versions of the software for such use, but changing language packs in the operating system. I don't know how this works on XP, but in Vista, you install new language packs (e.g., German) from Windows Update, then you can switch between them. The net effect is for all menus and so on in the OS to switch to German. |

That sounds like exactly what I need - is to toggle between the languages for the OS and the internet tools. I'll look into this. |

| Good idea, but I can't quite figure out how to make it work. On the plus side, one of my neighbors can speak and read English fairly well, so maybe she can use it as is. |

| Here's an article about optimizing your PC for German, including use of the language pack. |

| I am assuming that when you would be giving your notebook to the neighbor, you will enable guest login as to protect your data being as an admin and try to mess-around with the system. I know your neighbor won̢۪t do that but to be on the safe side :) |

| I'm not sure anyone should aspire to have even a single copy of IE on their computer, but to accomplish what you wish, you should start using Firefox and let your borrower use IE (upgraded to accomodate language needs). Plenty of other browsers available without needing to resort to Microsoft software. |

Louis - the MUI thingie is what I need, I think. I shall see if it's relatively easily do-able. (Tomorrow is laundry, finish packing, and send off the cats day.)
pgirish007 - I don't have any data worth protecting. :-) They can mess around with it all they like. I don't even encrypt my wireless modem. Free data for everybody!!
strangehost - I'm not pro or con as far as who uses what, but for people who've never used a computer much, I figure IE is as good a place to start as any, as there are probably more IE users than anything else, so my neighbors might be able to get more help that way. |

Ah - MUI is only available in XP Pro, and I have Home on the laptop. So English it is. Hopefully her cousin (who does know computers) can work something out for them.
On the other hand, maybe I should set my desktop to German.... :-) |

Why not just temporarily install Mozilla Firefoz or Opera in German. It's not too hard to use. you won't get all of your favorites lists mixed up either if your friend uses it that way.
Actually, now that I think of it, Why not just install it in German over your English copy?
I don't think you will lose any settings. And you should be able to reinstall it again in English just fine when you are done right?
