I am suffering from nasal allergy for the last 12 years, and have tried the following medicines (under expert supervision).

ALLOPATHIC MEDICINES:
Anti-Allergic (Cetrizine,Ketasma, Loridin-D etc.)
Corticosteroids (Betnesol, Celestone)
Nasal sprays (Rhinocort Aqua, Betamethasone)
De-sensitising injections (name not known)

HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINES:
Allium Cepa,
Bryonia Alba
Rhus Tox
... and some more.

AYURVEDIC MEDICINES:
Lakshmi Vilas Ras,
Haridra Khand,
Sanjivni Bati,
etc. etc..

But now, none of them seems to affect, and the trouble interferes with my day-to-day work (including photography).

The allergens are dust, heat, and some foods (beans, coconut) which I usually avoid.

The symptoms are sneezing, watering of eyes and nose for hours.

Can someone help?

I feel sympathy for you - that must be horrible.

AFAIK, Homeopathic and Ayurvedic medicines probably only work on the placebo principle - if they are not working, then it maybe because you are not placing enough trust in them. ; )

As I understand it, allergies are complex and causes can be vague - conventional/allopathic medicine provides a number of answers (anti-histamine works for me, brand: Zirtec), but I guess that the best one if nothing else works is to avoid the source. Would you be able to wear a face mask when working in the difficult conditions?

One medication I find works really well is Aerius - my son has seasonal allergies and it seems to help him a lot better than any other allergy medication we've tried. And it doesn't make him drowsy.

I've had good success with Flonase for my allergies (dust, pollen etc) that used to leave me incapacitated with violent sneezing fits. In the high pollen season I also take Claritin, which works well with the Flonase, but makes me tired and my mind foggy.

Can you also provide me generic names (salt names) of some effective (non-drowsy) anti-allergic medicines, because these may not be available in India under the same Brand names.

How long I can take cortico-steriods (like Tab. Betamethasone 0.5 mg) without major adverse effects?

The active ingredient for Aerius is Desloratadine (an antihistamine)- I don't know if it's available under any other names though - I know Aeruis tends to be fairly pricey. Sometimes if you speak to the pharmacist/doctor though, they may have sample packs to try, that's how we first tried it. Not sure how it works in India. My son uses it regularly during the spring and I have used it a couple of times and neither of us have had any drowsiness or 'medicine head' from it.

Thanks. Desloratadine is available in India.

my husband got very frequent nasal infections. Every month he was on antibiotics to "fix the problem" you need to find the underlying problem in order to fix it properly. He went to a naturopath and she put him on high doses (1000mg)+ several times a day. He hasnt had an infection in more than 10 yrs. Worth considering seeing someone.

Have you considered eliminating other highly allergenic foods such as dairy, wheat and corn? Maybe your symptoms won't be as strong.

Dairy foods do not cause me any allergic symptoms. Wheat is a staple food for me. We do not consume Corn (except Corn Flakes, which are made of all kinds of Cereals including Corn).
