I recently received a generic advertising e-mail (I guess it could be classified as spam) from the Rothschild Center with a disclaimer at the bottom that I or someone I knew had requested it be sent. Then today I received an e-mail from their director saying she saw my photos on Photosig and blah blah blah...

I was wondering if this might be legit, or if it was simply address harvesting from a photographic website. Anybody else here been getting letters from this place?

Here's the link: //www.7photos.com/

I have my opinions on the subject, but I'm curious....

PS -- If anybody else has started a thread like this, I apologize for starting another -- just point me in the right direction...

Having looked into some of the worst spam you've ever seen, this one is pretty tame. It looks like some guy in Israel gathered a bunch of email addresses from photosig, sent the messages from his ISP account on inter.net.il, through that ISPs mail server (with SMTP AUTH, no less!), advertising his site which is hosted at the same ISP. It looks to be a case of poor form rather than hardcore spamming. There don't appear to be any forgeries or misdirection, unless he is just being consistent. His ISP will probably slap him on the wrist and he'll have learned a valuable lesson in internet marketing.

It could be alot worse: he could have hired a "professional" spammer, which would have done his site, and our inboxes in the long run, alot of damage.

It's also not the first time my photosig address has been spammed.
