The SciFi challenge has some amazing imagination and talents among the entries. I didn't have any in that one and probably would have been smoked anyways. Congratulations to all of you who were in that one!

I agree Sally! But, I realized it a long time ago. I spend more time in perusing the photographs on the site, archives or portfolios than I do with my camera. Hey, I figure I would probably not take a whole lot of good pictures with my jaw dragging on the floor and the wind knocked out of my sails.

I got my first camera, a Brownie box-type camera, 50 years ago at the age of 5. From then on, I have loved photography. In the Army where I became a Signal photographer, I was first introduced to the wonderful world of the dark... room that is, and post processing. But after I bought my first digital camera earlier this year and wandered the Net trying to find out as much as possible about digital photography, I ran across this site and was totally blown away.

In film photography, even though there is a lot you can do in the darkroom to improve or 'change' a photo, the majority of the picture is formed before and during the actual taking of the photograph. I am not telling anyone anything new here.

Since finding this site, I have been totally awestruck by what can be accomplished with the digital camera, but mostly in post processing. Everyday, and sometimes each hour during a day, I am blown away by what people on this site can accomplish... and the results of their handiwork! And the Sci-Fi Challenge only shows what I mean even more.

The photo that took the blue was my favorite from the moment I first saw it. I tried figuring out how it was done and I guess I will never understand. :)

Kudos to all who participated in the Challenge. You all did wonderful jobs. And also kudos to all who use post processing to enhance, fix or create what you want to see in your picture. I know alot of people who don't feel the post-processing is entirely a thing of photography, and some don't feel it is even art. But i will tell you, with what can be done today with Photoshop and it's cousins...well, I am most envious. Color me green!!!!

Actually, I was amazed at some of the entries that achieved some stunning results with very little editing.

Yes, some of them made full use of the expert editing, using multiple photos and the art was more in the editing than the photo taking. I agree that I don't want that to take over this site, and I don't believe it ever will, but it's a bit of fun every now and then too. And it's not like they were just ripping up some stock images - they did have to take the photos first! :)

Some awesome photos were done with surprisingly little editing. Congrats to the talented photogs.

It may not be photography as such
But it is Digital art at its best!
This is a Digital photography web site
I am sure these talented people had to start off the way everyone else did with just an image and they have used thier creative minds and PS tools to create what we see in advanced editing that takes practice and a clever mind
I would love to be as clever!
