Today the temperature on my backyard thermometer (which is in the shade and about 5' above the ground) reached 117 degrees Fahrenheit. How hot is it in your neck of the woods?

I saw on the news that the temperature in Iraq is even hotter. Bless our Soldiers who are fighting over there. On a sad note - I noticed that I was the only person on my street to fly a flag today.

It was about 65 here and rained all day long. Our family traditions for the 4th got postponed until the weekend, and many of the firewords have been as well. Sorta' depressing, really...

Holy smoke. That's hot. I remember a June when my car temp showed 117. We have had unbelievable rain, so not much heat around here, which is soooo unusual.

Was in the 80's. today. In Texas on the 4th?? That's unread of.

89f today, but mostly cloudy and quite windy. Made for a very cool, comfy day but nixed most beach plans. Fireworks (which are still going) looked amazing since the clouds cleared an hour or so after sunset. :)

was only low 90s for the 4th but the humidity here is enough to kill ya. I ride my bike almost everywhere I go and I'm usually fine until I stop, then the sweat just runs! Really sucks.

What thegrandwazoo said. Except for the grilling part (you nut!). I stayed in the cool darkness of my place and worked on The Novel. Even as I write this, the sun is finally gone - woot!

We went to my SO's parent's house. Drove around looking at houses most of the afternoon and the thermometer in the car read 105° to 107°. Got back home and their thermometer in the shade on the patio peaked at 111° in the late afternoon. We left a little after 10pm and it was still 85°. I'm really hoping this day will have convinced her to stop looking for houses in the East Bay. It's just too damn hot out there. In contrast, we arrived back at our place on the peninsula about 35 minutes later and it was 57°. That's a civilized temperature. ~60° is perfect shorts and T-shirt weather. 90°+ is rip off your skin and put a gun in your mouth weather.

On the upside, seems like a lot of people got their hands on illegal fireworks this year. We were treated to quite the show both in the East Bay and on the drive home. It's after 11pm now and I still hear them going off all over the place. If I wasn't so wiped from the heat I'd be outside watching them.

Check out Alameda - it was only 83 today and it's in the East Bay.

HaHa! You got our usual 4th of July torrential downpours, but usually fall jacket temperature here. This year and last have been very ideal FoJ weather.

Hope you managed to keep the red glare in the rockets, Judy. :)

Ok, I've got you all beat so far. Thermometer is showing 122.5 and rising at 2:03 p.m. on July 5. Of course, the humidity is strangely low (21%) for this time of year. Last night it was just dripping. It's been a mild summer so far for here.

Can I get some kid of ribbon for this? I know the pic is bad with the reflection on the thermometer's screen and all; but, hey, when it's 122.5 degrees outside, you take a quick snap and get back inside!

57 degrees and I'd be freezing my buns off! Shorts?! When it's 57 out? No frickin' way!

Well, he is in California, when I lived out there, I went years without wearing long pants more than one or two days per year.

I'm guessing that the USMC doesn't have a uniform that includes shorts for you when it's 122F, do they? That's too hot to move, let alone work.

It was hot in the Badlands a couple days ago. 103 and it seemed worse because it reflects so bad off all that white dirt. I,m in Deadwood, SD now and it's a little better, low 90's mostly for highs.

No, no USMC shorts. But the Brits DO have uniform shorts; and so do the French. They look kind of cute in a Cub Scouts kind of way.

Part of the success of the British fighting Rommel in Africa during WWII was attributed to their uniform shorts that helped them stay cool while the Germans suffered in their long wool uniforms.

Just some trivia for the day.

Anyway, good luck staying cool over there.

True, Alameda wouldn't be bad but unfortunately economics are dictating the outer East Bay for us.

It's all about what you're acclimatized to. My blood is nice and thick from living in Daly City with its wonderful nearly perpetual fog bank. It might be a tad chilly if you're used to 122°. If I went to Oman I'd be worried about bursting into flames or having all of the proteins in my body denature upon stepping out of the plane.

According to the weather report, today will be hot and stupid again, 32C (humidity ~50%). The weekend will be back to comfortable, 21C and 22C (70F).
