Where's the fireworks challenge!? (I'm not "actually" upset...but I thought there would be a special fireworks challenge today!)

You need a fix? Shot this last night and it's about the only one I've processed so far. One of the local hotels is kind enough to have a July 3rd fireworks show!

I was thinking the same thing!

Would be more interesting to be a July 4th challenge with a "No Fireworks" requirement.

How about a "Forest fires started by fireworks" Challenge?

I am guessing that 4th of July is not an International Celebration. It would limit the submissions. I did get out and shoot ours tonight though!

I had 2 tripods, and 2 cameras set up tonight. I had actually hoped for a fireworks challenge. SInce we dont have one lets share our shots huh?

Question for everyone. What settings do you use for fireworks?

mine where at ISO 100, f3.5 (cause I forgot to go higher, would have used about 8-10) and anywhere from 3 sec to 1.5 sec. I'll try and get more loaded tonight and get the details in there.

In my seventeen plus years of owning a camera this is the first time I have ever shot fireworks. I like the way the first one came out (10 sec at f8), the second I wish wasn't quite so blown, but I like it anyway- (I think 20 sec at f8- I'll have to look at my exif).

Forgot- iso 100

Thanks Scott. There is no smoke in your images? Stiff breeze or what? All very clean.

10 seconds? That's a really long time. Looks like you were a bit far away from action but I'm surprised that there isn't more trail on a 10 second shot. Most of mine were shot at f11, ISO 100 and they were either 1 or 2 seconds. The first shot is very nice. Still confused though that it's a 10 second shot. :)

I've now gone through and processed all the shots that were worth posting. Amazingly I wound up with 80 photos. Not bad for only the second time I've shot them.

Full Gallery is at: //rkligman.smugmug.com/gallery/3098017

Love to hear if you liked my shots. Leave a comment in the Smugmug gallery if you would be so kind. I thought many turned out quite nice but obviously I'm biased so I need some feedback. Thanks in advance!

Ya, curves works fairly well. In your case a bit better than mine!

This is the only one I have time to clone out power lines on tonight. Was taken during the grand finale. Our little town put on a good show tonight.
I will put some more up soon

She was born in Aus, hence 4.05kg, not lb/oz stuff!

Congratulations all the same!

I entered all of my shot settings in my portfolio. I could have used ISO 100, though, instead of ISO 200. This way I was able to get smaller aperture, and still not get too many fireworks in the frame. THey were shooting them about every 5-6 seconds, and I did not want to have to keep the shutter open for more than that. And I wanted to shoot at least at f/11.

Posted in another thread:

Here are my July 3rd Photos - only my second time doing Fireworks.

My settings (I forgot to change my ISO) were as follows:

ISO: 400 (doh!)
Shutter, between 1-10 seconds
Apeture, between 16-22
