I shoot in RAW + JPEG but often use the JPEG for processing. I've found it can be difficult and time-consuming to adjust the RAW image to the specific parameters I've selected. I shoot a lot of animal photography, and usually underexpose by about 1.5 stops, use open shade or cloudy wb setting, and sometimes fill flash. The "properly" exposed RAW file usually takes a lot more editing work. However, there are times I guess TOTALLY wrong, and then the RAW file is a lifesaver :-)
One other reason I do as much as possible in camera is that I also still use film sometimes - I'd love to buy a digital back for my medium format Mamiya, but would have to hit the lotto, LOL - and paying attention in-camera all the time keeps me on my game, so to speak. |
