Remember that there is a tax and other fees when getting insurance. When i bought my car, i could only afford to buy 3months for now, and that cost me $750 lol, but 3 months is more than paying for a year all at once but i couldn't afford that right away. That $750 included $300 tax and like $120-$150 in other misc fee's. Im 19 and have a perfect driving record, but its still a fair bit. Remember that they take your age into account, and the ammount of time you've been driving. Even with my 99 cavalier i was paying $150/month. Its gunna be different where you live, but keep the cost for taxes in mind. If your buying from a lot, i think it'll be more.

If you are getting this insurance for yourself as opposed to being an occasional driver on one of your parents' insurance, that is incredibly low.

I know oodles of young people in Ontario, who took all the requisite driver's education courses, have clean driving records and pay substantially more than $1500.00 per annum.

Good luck to you.

Heh, that doesn't mean anything. They probably pay 400 a year per car. Here in Maryland a 21 year old can pay 241 a month and have clean record while a 50 year old with 1 accident and 3 points can pay 100 a month. Age/Length of time licensed, your credit have none thats a bad thing (not sure about Canada though if they've started that yet but they will. Good grades can help you but usually not hurt. Having multiple policys and or life/home owners with the same company. Length of time with the company.

Also your parents car might be liability only so adding you is even cheaper. I with 3 accidents and 3 tickets paid 100 a month on my moms insurance.

Mind you 4 years ago clean record, 89 ford escort with a 4 dollar discount for automatic seat belts, multiple policy discount, liability only i payed 110 a month. A girl in the same situation would pay 85.

Dustin, we're paying $942 for a 1996 Mercury Sable and $947 for a 2001 Malibu. That's with our maximum 40% safe-driving discount.
But we also have extras. Flat, lowest possible premium (before discounts) on the Malibu are $757.

It would be easy to go into any ICBC agent and have them work up the cost for what you want, though :)

I really don't know. Safety of the car isn't the only factor; how much it'll cost them to repair/replace it is a biggy too. Bestest to ask :)

Im gonna tell you that cars is not considered safe. If it rolls the windshield will fold flat and the headrest will snap and if your lucky u wont die. Side impacts at 15 mph or more, injury or death. Rear ending? you cross dash. Front end crash engine between you and door lol.

Miata, S2000, Mercedes SLK32... all considered bad in saftey.

Safe = Hardtop, 4 door, backseats lol thats how the saying used to go "Why are there backseats in this roadster you cant fit in them.... Insurance is cheaper!"

My Austin healey is like the cap. There is nothing holding up the windshield about 300 pounds of pressure would fold it down. I dont mind driving the Healey because it is all steel but it doesn't help too much it has no frame. I have had several SUV's try to back over me in parking lots while i was waiting to exit.

So is that why i can't really fit properly into my girlfriends dads back seat in his BMW 850i?

Noise,

you want a reliable car. You want something you can run 200K miles+. YOu should get something like a Honda or Toyota or Subaru.

This thing is cool and all, but you can't afford to replace/repair it right away.

If I were you I would buy a dependable 1999-2001 Civic, accord, corolla, camry, legacy or impreza. Spend around $3-5K and be good for at the very least a few years.

If your not going to do that, I would say take a loan for the car, pay monthly payments and buy the lens with the cash you have saved. Best of both worlds. THere is no reason to use your own money for a car when a bank will give you theirs.

Thats why im going to look for one with low milage, i live in a small town so i wont be driving super long commutes, ive set my mind on this car. I think i might get a loan for the car but still pay a good down payment so i wont be paying for a long time

My friend had a metro, yeh thats right, for 13yrs with 300,000 plus miles....it finally died 3 yrs ago. He bought his first brand new truck, he says he misses his car though.

Just because you get low miles doesn't guarantee you won't need to dump money into it. A 92 is 15years old. That means 15 year old parts. Regardless of condition, 15 year old parts may break. Also 15 year old parts are harder to find which makes them expensive. Im not trying to rain on your parade, but I made the same mistake with my first car.

I bought a 2005 Subaru Legacy in 2005 because I thought I needed a nice new car. Drove fine and was a great car. the problem was that I overextended myself and the payments and insurance were too much. I ended up selling it in a panic to the first person to show me money. In the end I lost money selling it for less than it was worth, lost money on the $5K deposit I put down. Essentially I could have bought a used car that was reliable and saved a ton.

I now buy and sell cars all the time. Im on like my 6th car since April. Remember, a car will get you around, but new L lenses can make you money.

My money is on Volvos for the longest running cars. My friend flipped his while avoiding a dead deer in the road w/ 417,000 miles. that Volvo was replaced by a "new" one w/ 244,000 miles. Combined in two cars he has 661,000 Volvo miles. Not too shabby.

If you are looking for a rolling love nest for you and your gf, get a van.

My 1966 Austin healey is 41 years old, it only needs 1 part a month. Original bottom end with overhauled head unrestored with 198,000 miles. Oh anf BTW there are only 7 parts that I cant get new and theres not a single part that i cant get for the car.

Got to love aftermarket when it supports a car that great.

However the suzuki is gonna be a little different. But just learn how to work on it and youll be okay its like a motorcycle. Just dont break any interior peices lol.

I have a 1993 Lincoln Continental that I currently drive. It only has 110,000km on it. The only real greif it caused was a head gasket around Feb. That was about 800.00, they were known to have a problem with them in that model year. Ford did a recall and was replacing them for free. Mine didn't get done :(

Lincoln's are also not bad to find parts for because pretty much anything Ford will fit it.

Get a VW Splitty!!! Susuki cars have the worst rating when it comes to safety and maintenance. Don't do what I did when I was your age and bought a Triumph tr7 cause it looked cool.
