The car in the background of this? I am trying to work on this effect but that car is distracting.

Yes. Carefull cloning...

Well, yeah, there is, but it involves reconstructive surgery on the BG, not for the faint of heart. If you have another shot with the same BG/light without the distractions, consider excising the dune buggy and pasting it over that BG.

Depends on what you are going to use it for. I can clone it out for sure and it will look fine on a website or a 4x6 print. IMO if you are thinking of selling the shot or printing it in large sizes, it may need very very good cloning.

I'm gonna give it a quick try.

This took about 3 minutes. I can do a much better job if I really wanted this to be pristine.

I would like to add some bushes to cloned area for a better shot. I'll give that a try also.

EDIT: I did mess up your border a little and left a tiny tiny grain of the van near the border. I'll try to clean it a little.
Anyway ....here's what clone can do for you.

Exactly what I am trying for. By chance can I get a quick overview of exactlay what you did. Cloning is not a strong point for me I keep losing where the bottom of the hill and the........ the seperation. I'm getting crap when I try. Great work

I think the main things with cloning are the patience to work a pixel or two at a time where necessary, and the ability to envision what should be behind what you're removing, or what you're rebuilding should look like.

Well as you can see..I didn't do very well with re-creating the "road" that the van was on. I felt that once I removed the van, I didn't have to worry about "if it looked like a road" because to the viewer of the photo, they never knew a road was there.

As far as an over view:

Duplicated the layer
Cloned over the top of the van using the "hill" in front of the van as my "brush".

The wheel and the shadow was cloned out by using that little piece of color in front of the wheel. I then cloned in a little of the hill directly below the van

When cloning, I tend to use small strokes and try to brush in such a way as to make it natural and not just "copy" looking.

I know I stink as a teacher but I hope it helps.

Does it look cloned?

Yes but it's not bad. I'd use a soft low opacity clone brush where the light and dark colors meet so the cloning would blend in more.

ETA: You also want to avoid having it look flat so when you are doing the cloning sample some darker spots and adjust the opacity a bit to give the area more depth.

I think it is good. I'd try to soften the "line" a little. Remember, no one expects a road to be there-- so you can blend. If you wanted to recreate a road, it would be much harder.

edit: I wouldn't try to "overdo" it. If you're not satisfied, save the cloned file and then open the original again and start over. Do this until you get something you like.

It is very easy to overdo a clone job.

Honest opinion on the finished photo?

No one could ever tell, at least on this size, but I'm betting we are so critical because we know what was there and are looking for the change. If they don't know it was there they won't notice as much. great job.

In this case, one useful trick is to create a new layer and clone onto that, making sure that the 'Use all layers' checkbox is ticked. That way, one ends up with a separate layer with all the cloning work on it and any portions that don't work can simply be erased and redone, rather than having to start again from scratch.

a suggestion earlier was to use another shot in the same position or similar position to clone from or to cut a section from, feather and insert over the other vehicle and then tidy up with the eraser tool on that layer. Hope that makes sense.
