Can it be done? I shot photos for a band for their CD cover. I put the card into my wolverine flashpac card reader and I thought it wrote to it, I thought the hard drive space had gone down. One of them knocked over the hard drive and hit the ground. I put in an SD card and it read and copied. I put the same CF card just now and it copied the files also, just the download prior to being dropped is gone. I then reformatted the card in the D200 and shot some more on it about 75% of the card is filled again. I am hoping to at least recover those photos not filled up yet, although I don't know if they are usable but I'd like to try. I tried PC Inspector File recovery but it shows nothing old to save. Does anyone else have some good programs to try and recover files from a formatted CF card? I am screwed...

Didn't work, it showed nothing from before the format :(. Thanks for the program though.
I feel so unprofessional, atleast these are friends of mine and I can hopefully reshoot soon. I wasn't getting paid, and had done other shoots for them, but this sucks. Were all busy and trying to find time won't be easy. I don't know why no extra files showed up, maybe Nikons have super formatting powers...

You might get some back but most of the space has already been overwritten.

Recovery can be done from a formatted card if nothing has been written to it after the format.

Yup ZAR 8.0 the memory card function is free and 100% functional.

Only 50% true, You can recover any files that haven't been written over, Flash Memory is tricky because it write every 4th block and doesn't rewrite and till each block has been written. With flash memory chances of overwriting space a file was on is much greater then with a hard drive.

So if I have formatted the card and taken one photo on the card the whole card can't be recovered? bummer, although that seems to be true from what I have tried. I thought I saw a thread where people have recovered photos from a formatted card, if they were the photos at the end of the card and had not been written over yet. Musta been a dream, :P

I tried and nothing old was recovered. I ran the first tutorial to no avail. I am now trying the Recover lost digital images tutorial, waiting to see what happens...
Edit:It seems to have found more files, still working on it. We'll see how they came out.

that doesnt sound good at all. I ran it on an old SD card and pulled 1 image that was 2 years old.

But ive also used it to recover files i saved over or entire cards. Im suprised it ran that quick it usualy takes longer.

You are usng the memory card function not the hard drive one right? ALways save to the computer not the card.

The first time I did I followed this tutorial. Nothing new

The second time I ran this tutorial. It is saving the files now and shows 220 files. Hopefully some are there.
