No no, this is HOWARD Burns, Montgomery's younger and handsomer brother.
They were separated at a very young age, growing up in very different environments, yet the similarity of certain behaviours gives strength to the argument for nature over nurture. |

So I found Howard, laying on the ground and STILL eating the very branch I threw him away on. He let me take a few shots, once I promised to share publishing rights. Feeling a new soft spot for Howard, I carried him back to the peppers - hell I can't eat ALL of them anyway! Grow up fast, Howard or I'll toss you back in the forest! :)
He does have a horn and stripes!

So.... Cindi has a soft spot for cute, horny guys ;)
Or does that only apply to green ones??
But seriously, this is a tobacco hornworm, distinguished from the tomato hornworm by the 7 straight lines as opposed to 8 v-shaped ones.
Tobacco hornworm also has a red horn rather than a black one...
Oh, and larval stage lasts 18 days... have you got enough peppers? :)

Dayum! That's harsh! Would you break Leroy's limb if he was caught munching in your garden?

He's FAST! I go out to check if he's made it back onto a living stalk... he's all the way at the top and happily eating another pepper leaf. 18 days!?!?! I don't think I have enough pepper plants! I'll keep track of Howard the best I can. Maybe I can catch his big transformation!
Ken.... you need spanked for that one! ;)

Oh, I know that moth. They're pretty big! Cool.... if he survives it will be interesting to see him metamorph.
Horny Howard in a sack?!@?!?! LMAO You're not well. :P
BTW - all 3 of the posted shots were taken with 100mm macro lens, 580 flash & Gary Fong Whaletail. Go Gary! lol Oh and the first & last are on tripod with remote release - the middle shot of Howard in the woods was handheld.
