Was looking at this lense today. Total price was $126
Want a zoom and don't have alot of cash. Took some shots with it
and thought they looked alright but I never trust the LCD. Anyone ever have/use this lens?? Can't decide thinking some opinions could help....

From what I "hear", the lens is terrific from 70-200mm but a little soft at 300mm.
I don't have the lens I hear it is a wonderful bargin.
I would opt for the VR and AF-S version if possible.

I've got it, and even though it doesn't autofocus on the D40 and I'm forced to manual, it puts out some decent pictures. Sometimes a little soft at the 300 range, which I've noticed is common on alot of the "not the best" zoom lenses. Its great as a lens for that range, especially due to price, until I can get primes for beyond that distance. Might pic up the Bigma 50-500 before I start laying down 4k+ for the primes though.

And all the animal pics in my portfolio, except for the baby croc, were done with the lens handheld.

Hand held with the lens in question. A bit soft till you stop down a bit but it has a reasonably fast autofocus and is very light. If you lose it, it wont kill you to replace it. I dont think you'd be making a mistake with this lens as I really enjoyed it when I owned it.

With the 70-300mm Nikkor or Tamron on anything in that zoom range you can get decent photos with the lens but if you want to use it shoot sports or anything fast moving don't get your hopes up. Sure you can focus in manual mode or you can zone focus. I have tried both and the neither work that great. You can get usable sports shots but the % of the shots that you can use is going to be much lower. If you don't mind dropping $150.00 on this lens not bad deal.

I may want to sell my Nikon 70-300ED (non VR). Not sure how much but you can make me an offer.
