I like it. Were you able to do that with natural/studio lighting or was there a lot of post-processing work done?

Nice tones, the b&w gradations are well done. Posing and lighting are really nice. Only one minor nit. You might want to smooth over the little annoyance on her bottom lip. I keep looking at it.

really nice black and white conversion... what method do you use?

Only thing I would have done differently is in regards to the lower part of her face. I would have tried to maintain the same sharpness you achieved on her eye throughout the bottom of her chin.

Just to be contrarian (is that a word?). I really like this style of portrait, where the DOF is so shallow that the eye is in focus but that the focus rapidly falls off as you move away from the eye. I think what you've got is perfect the way it is.

very beautiful image, what pretty eyes!

some critiques, she's broad lit, which usually isn't the most flattering. second, it almost looks like you shot it at a shot focal length, but i might be mistaken.

but like a said before, great image. love the contrast

for BW conversion I used CS3's black and white adjustment layer.

and for the sharpness levels, i like to shoot with a larger aperture in portraits and focus on the eyes just to direct all attention to the eyes because eyes are the strongest part in the photo.
Well at least for my girlfriend(girl in the photo) her eyes are very powerful, so its how i like to do the shots i take of her.

I think it's a great shot.
My only criticsm really is the heavily applied makeup.
Photography wise i think it's brilliantly done.

Actually are you sure you didn't edit her hair line? It looks fake, it's so straight and bold. lol.

I was going to say that her hair next to the hair line looks plastic. Other than that it is a beautiful portrait.

I think it's really great. I'm not sure what I would change. I would like to at least try to add a little bit of fill to that dark side of her face. just enough where you can see the shape. Without that reference the eyes and the nose can get a little big if you look at it long enough. i.e. if you print and put this on your wall.

like I said though, I would just try it. I'm not sure if it would alter the mood of the image too much

yeah I've never really used Broad lighting and wanted to, i think she still looks stunning though.

and it was shot with a 50mm/1.4 with a 20D so after conversion it'd be a 80mm

I think her face is narrow enough to use it. That is one of those rules that are changing. Fashion has changed that

she has barely any skin makeup on whatsover ever, like almost none. the eyemakeup theres more, but thats now she is, and she's freaking amazing at makeup.

and i didn't touch her hairline, only modification was something minor on her chin
