Most of my comments so far (6) seem to be critical from the perspective of a setup or studio shot, as opposed to "see something/grab camera/shoot frame" like my entry. As someone else mentioned, the critical factor in THIS challenge should be whether the photo makes you want to read the story which accompanies it, not so much the particulars of framing, exposure, grain, etc.
Having those things of better quality may get a bonus from me, but are not likely to be much of a negative factor if the concept is good.

hmm .. I don't see where you are getting this.

I myself wrote that my preference for photojournalism was 'chronicling of some actual occurence, as opposed to a set up shot -- even if it's just people standing around waiting for the bus'.

i don't see anyone else in here saying anything like it should be a war zone. . .

And I don't see anyone

I was speaking euphemistically, AND joking - but I was responding to the comment that "the class failed" in regards to the PJ challenge! What GeneralE said is pretty much how I feel. Not everyone is able to capture a shot of an "event", and I think the voters should keep an open mind.

I'll disagree -- I think the challenge pretty clearly was to shoot in a photojournalistic style. To require people to actually find and document a "newsworthy" event seems too extreme a burden for this site and contest, and would confer unfair advantages on some members. Not that I might not give "bonus points" for real events -- just don't think people should be penalized just because there was no mayhem within their coverage area.

I'm scoring on whether or not the photo makes me want to read the article for what ever reason. I happen to think there are a lot of good shot for the challenge. My biggest complaint is all the black and white. Some really great shots have been ruined by that, and by their colorization of them. I thought the idea was to make someone want to read your article from your title put together with the photo. A lot are doing this which is great. I realize this is a hard one and I feel a lot of people tried real hard to meet the challenge. I don't kow why so many people are complaining about the shots. They are good, and some of them are very good and would make me read the article. I don't really like the posed shots either, but if they say something, what's all that wrong. I think you are taking some of them for posed when they aren't. Like I said my complaint is don't try to fix something that ain't broken - such as a good shot by showing your abilities to play around with the color. You loose the whole idea of what you're trying to do with this challenge. Also I realize turning a color into B&W is talent but not if it ruins a great shot. Why don't you quit looking for something to gripe about and really look at these shots and vote them accordingly. These people deserve at least that much. You'd want the same consideration for your shot. Enough said and probably too much. Everything has a place in this challenge!

Looks like I know how to stop a conversation. I didn't mean to do that. Just pretend I never got in this one.
