		| | I'm looking for a second camera to have with me all the time, it should have the following features: - possibility of manual time and aperture setting
 - 6 MP minimum
 - backpocket size (the Powershots are too large)
 - CF or SD card slot (so, NO Sony)
 - optical viewfinder preferred, otherwise 250.000 px display

 What would you recommend?

		| | They're all sleeping. :-) If I can remember which one my mom has, I'll post back - I was pretty impressed with it. |

		| | You seriously need to look at the Fuji Finepix F30 or F31. Excellent low light cameras. Check the reviews on dpreview.com |

		| | I remembered - take a look at the Casio Exslim series. Lots of options, pretty good pics, nice size - not too small, not too big. |

		| | Melethia's right about the Exilim series - I looked at those for quite a while. The Canon digital Elph series is also excellent. My Dad has one and it takes very good pictures. Don't know about manual controls, though.

avoid the F40, go a step backwards and aim for the F31D instead.
the noise on the F40 appears to be worse when compared.

		| | I'll add a vote for the F30. I bought one for my niece and it's a pretty cool little camera. |

		| | I had a Powershot SD400 and accidentally banged the screen and broke it. The only problem I had with the Powershot was the lack of manual controls so next I bought a Casio Exilim EX-Z750 since it is one of the few P&Ss that has manual control of shutter/aperture. Honestly, if I could go back in time I would not buy the Casio. The picture quality is just not as good as the Powershot with the sole exception of low light shots, which are less grainy. I was surprised to hear you say the Powershot is too big... there aren't that many decent P&Ss that are smaller.
Surprisingly, I think the best quality P&S I ever had was the very first one I had - a 1.4mp Sony that I bought in 1998 or so... I know the memory sticks are annoying, but the quality and features (aside from the number of megapixels) were better than pretty much any P&S I have found today. It let me set shutter/aperture, for instance.

Another option, I was just in Fiji and a bunch of people had a relatively new P&S that is completely waterproof (can't remember what kind, but shouldn't be hard to track down) - they were taking it snorkelling with them and snapping away (and taking videos) while I was struggling with a waterproof case.
