I've got my Desolation submission narrowed down to two photos and now I'm working them in PS. My question is do you think a color photo has a chance or will the top three all be monochrome? No doubt that monochrome adds a feel of isolation/desolation but maybe color will stand out in the crowd. What do you think? |

Roger, I think you are correct that there will be alot of B/W & monochrome. I think not so much that a color shot will stand out just because it's in color.
Submit what you like best, no use worrying what the voters will prefer, it's a futile exercise...

That's short for monochromatic. "all of one color" Black and white pictures count, and so do sepia-tones. |

I agree with Kirbic. You can't please everyone, so post the one you feel best about or would like to get feedback on the most.

I'm going to hope your theory about color is right ;) |

I have a great photo taken one day too early ....
I try to refer to them as "grayscale" rather than Black and White, reserving that for pen-and-ink line drawings, etchings, and envravings and the like, which are truly only black or white. But that's an old Photoshop, not photography habit .... |

A quick reminder of the meaning of the word 'Desolate':
1. a) Devoid of inhabitants; deserted: âstreets which were usually so thronged now grown desolateâ (Daniel Defoe).
b) Barren; lifeless: (eg, the rocky, desolate surface of the moon.)
2. Rendered unfit for habitation or use: the desolate cities of war-torn Europe.
3. Dreary; dismal.
4. Bereft of friends or hope; sad and forlorn. See Synonyms at sad.
... and of 'Desolation':
1. The act or an instance of desolating.
2. The state of being desolate.
3. Devastation; ruin: a drought that brought desolation to the region.
4. a) The state of being abandoned or forsaken; loneliness: a sense of utter desolation following the death of his parents.
b) Wretchedness; misery.

size question. The picture I submitted for the challenge is within the right size limits but you have to scroll to see all of it. Can I unsubmit it and resubmit it smaller? |

I'm pretty sure as long as you do it by the deadline tonight, you can submit and unsubmit all you want. :) |

I have just unsubmitted and submitted four times I think, trying to decide between two images...still don't know if I chose correctly, but you can change them at will I guess until the challenge ends.

I would much rather scroll to see the entire length of your image than squint to see details on a smaller one. I feel it is always best to submit the largest image allowed. |

"DESOLATION" ...is what you believe it to be. No interpretation necessary....
