If you drop ANYTHING that is electrical in water take the unit and RUN don't walk to the nearest supply of RUBBING ALCOHOL remove the battery and flood the gadget with the ALCOHOL. This will displace the water and the aclohol will evaporate at a rapid pace. I have saved many items including cell phone, pager and recently a $600 police scanner. The faster you get the battery out and the aclohol in the better your chances. Once the item has been flooded with the alcohol, blow out the excess alcohol and it will evaporate and will leave behind a cozy dry spot for your battery to be re-introduced to. This does work and I wish you all the best.

Hey, this is an interesting idea.
I dropped my pager in the toilet a few years ago. I was actually running up the stairs at the time. My pager was on a chain, and with the bouncing up the stairs, it bounced out of my pocket, and the chain wrapped around my arm which had the double effect of breaking the chain and slingshotting the pager across the hallway, through the open toilet door and clean into the bowl, about 4 metres from where I was!
I dried it out, but it was never the same again.

YOU should stay on dry land and far away from bodies of water. :P

I'm not sure I would try this with a camera. Rubbing alcohol can be hell on a sensor.

I am assuming that all of this equipment was OFF at the time it fell into the water right?

Can you skip this step if you drop your camera into a pint of beer?
