Why you selling? Going for a 1D III?
Which 100mm f/2.8?
I'd say those prices look pretty decent to my eye. almost makes me wish I was close enough to make an offer on that 5D... oh and almost makes me wish I had the money too. ;) |

I meant is it the new one or the old one... The new one is USM.
Skyler - noticed that, but still surprised he is going through with it... that's a big investment to walk away from. going to cost a few if the bug bites again.

FYI, Adorama has the 5D new with 24-105 f/4 L lens for a total of $3395. Most places have comparable pricing for that combo. That might affect what you can get for those two items. Good luck!

I seen that. B&H has that deal also. It's like buying the camera and getting the lens half price.
I think if I decide to sell the stuff and someone wanted both I'd make them deal but seperately they would remain as listed. In all reality though, the more I think about how much money I'll be losing the less inclined I am to want to get rid of it. Maybe I'd just be better off to store it away for awhile and see what happens. If I decide to sell, you guys and gals here at DPC will get 1st call on it.

Don´t do it Dave, you have talent and I am 100% sure your enthusiasm will come back, might take some time so just put down the camera for a while and see what happens.
If you have to sell anything, at most sell the 5D and maybe a couple of speciality lenses like the macro and 300mm but keep the all around ones and then get a cheaper body so you can at least resume your photography without having to repurchase all those lenses. |

Dave,
Pretty drastic move to sell everything.
Here is what I would suggest (from one blind squirrel to another):
1) read some photography books
2) participate in one of these 30 days of B&Ws or 30 days of ordinary objects or make up your own
3) try doing a photo a day project or some type of project to get your creative juices flowing
4) do some photos for a charity in your area that needs some help, either publicity photos or photos of the people for keepsakes
5) bounce ideas off of other DPCers via e-mail
6) read a couple of blogs or photo websites to get creative juices flowing
7) take one lens and use only that lens for a project or week or month
8) do a project of cars, people, wildlife, macros, etc.
Most people burn out when they do not know where to go with what they are doing. Try to dream of some goals. It may lead you to change your style or how you approach the whole photo thing.

I'd be willing to store the 70-200 for you! ;)
Really, if I had the money for it, I would be all over it! I was looking at that very lens at Glenn's today. He'll let me do lay-aways but it would probably take me a year to get it off! Plus, there's a turbo flash thing I have on layaway, and I have two backdrops coming in next week.
Oh and I agree with everyone else who is saying don't sell your equipment! I go through spurts where my poor camera gathers dust, but other times I just go nuts with it.

I didn't realize the context of this post when I first replied. Obviously, I agree that you should keep your equipment and ride out whatever storm you're going through right now. Wish you the best!

Dave!!! Don't sell all your stuff!!!
:-( That would make me sad. I had so much fun in Colorado shooting with you, and really enjoyed the photos from that GTG, as well as more recent stuff. It's ok if you don't feel like shooting all the time anymore....that's just life. I mean, I can't think of *anything* that I've wanted to do every day. Give it some time, and I think you'll find your interest will come back when you're ready for it.
I've got an expensive flute I bought when I was studying music in college. School burnt me out on it, and I haven't really touched it in at least 4 years....couldn't stand to pick it up. After four years, I've realized that most of that was due to rememberances of stress and feeling like I was inadequate. Now that I have nothing to compete against, I'm finding that I enjoy playing again--just for me :-)
So hang in there....I would hate to see you lose something you've enjoyed so much. |

Dave,
We do not know each other and I definately do not claim to know what you are going through. What I can say is look at my profile. I went through a very bad phase too. Combine that with my big problem... a very dark soul, sensitive to all light except that coming through my lenses.
I weathered my storm by taking time out, call it a sabbatical. My camera gathered dust but I went on a reading spree. And slowly that magic of photography is returning. I realised it would, it is in my blood.
Yours too, friend, would return. Do anything, but please do not sell your stuff. One, you will not get for it what you paid for it, two, you will probably have a tougher time to build up again. If you realy insist on selling, it is your choice. Then just get yourself a nice P&S like the S5IS...
I will think about you. |

Yes you did realize the context of this thread.
Thanks for the sentiment folks but really that's not what I'm looking for. I'm trying to figure an actual real world value for the stuff I own. I'm trying to realize the money lost vs. what I paid. I understand that stuff depreciates and I won't re-coup what I spent. I also realize I can probably get more listing it on E-bay vs. selling it out-right to people. I want to know what people would actually offer for these items if I actually put them up for sale.

Well, e-bay is a pretty good source, I would also check the buy/sell forum at www.fredmiranda.com as well as www.pricegrabber.com. Some of the prices seems a tad high.
Good luck in your sales.

Unless you are already an established seller on eBay, you will not get what that equipment is worth.
Your prices look fair to me.
I hope you don't sell. Like I said, I sometimes go months without shooting much/if at all. Maybe you need to go to a get together to get the juices flowing. |
