Is it better to enter a challenge if think that you have no chance of winning and aren't satisfied with your entry, or to skip it until you manage to take a photo that you think is excellent, however long it takes?

There are a couple of challenges that I've went out shooting for since I got back but wasn't at all satisfied with anything. I'm worried about falling into last place or having ugly images forever in my profile. But with writing, the best way to get rid of writers block is just to write, even if it's no good--just to get your creative juices flowing.

Enter, your opinion may or may not be correct. My first entry was one of my best and I have gone on the roller coaster ride ever since. I actually like the comments better than the scores.

Good Luck

I like the idea of taking pictures for me, but public opinion can be a great ego boost! I generally enter shots that I like, regardless of how I think the DPC crowd will react to them.

On the other hand, with the DPL I generally went with the feelings of my teammates since it was a competition involving more than just me. In the Macro Puzzle challenge, I entered a shot I didn't care much for but it's scoring above 6.1. In this case, I am glad that the voters don't agree with me. :)

I really don't care how they finish, for the most part; I enter a LOT of pictures I like that I know won't score well (my macro is at 4.6 right now), and even some I don't especially like, just to be in the game. Every now and then I enter a picture I really DO care about and if THAT doesn't score well it kind of bums me out, but I can handle it.

Definitely enter!!! Just started myself. None of my entries have been "the" photograph. I'm always busy and it's tough just to find time to go out with the camera. Given my time - if a photo I took met a challenge, I'll submit it.

You'll never know unless you try.

Like many others, I've completely given up trying to predict how an entry will do. My two ribbons I considered nothing special when I entered them, and shots that I've really liked AND thought would do very well on DPC have disappointed me. Just take photos and enter to have fun!

Enter, enter, enter. (Risk, risk, risk). Unlike shooting film, you needn't be quite so careful before you click your digishutter. (A concentration I miss, but my digiviewfinder is a pain). And entering is the same: it doesn't cost, and you don't really know what will come out of it; but don't you want to find out? Like downloading your card onto the computer. (I have one brown, one ultra-brown, and another near brown, and I survived).
