I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find the right search to locate the thread...

Is it considered appropriate to pull an image that has already been posted to a portfolio and use it for free study?

Does it matter if the image was called out in a thread or just quietly posted to any who might browse by?

Thanks,
Dave

Most of us have done it at one time or another. General "best practice" is to remove the image from your portfolio ASAP and hope that it isn't widely recognized by voters who are likely to penalize you for using an "already discussed" shot. In the times that I have done it, I've never perceived any negative effects.

it's been done before... especially for the best of the year challenges...

some might find it bad form if it's had a bunch of views and comments already, though...

just make sure that you hide the one in your portfolio or move it to your workshop...

You may get some low votes due to loss of anonymity. However, to limit the effect you can hide the image in your portfolio if you choose to use it for the free study.

You may want to impress upon those who have seen/commented on it already to refrain from voting on it if you do.

i would think along with that, as long as it was shot within the time frame it would be good to go

Thanks all for the quick response! Next month I'll try to hold a few good ones back, but that can be hard when you are excited about sharing an image.

I moved all of the potential images to my workshop before I posted this in order to avoid any more views. They all had less than 100 views and had never been highlighted in a thread, so I'm hoping that I don't run into any problems.
