Doctors can't always decide best what it is.

See a doctor and find out what they think, then if you want take the advice but don't just take the pill cause they say take this pill.

1. They sure as HELL probably know better than a bunch of photographers and if they don't can refer you to a specialist.

2. The medication I had in mind was in the salve department.

But whatever ... if you want to ask the general public rather than your doctor what is ailing you, be my guest ...

<----- nods at Greetmir.

Ssodell, if you don't want to take the advice of the best-trained people to tell you what's wrong with you, that's certainly your choice. I agree you should be a thoughtful patient, but naming one case when they didn't have a specific answer doesn't indicate it's a great idea to just ignore them for no apparent reason.

I will agree with Greetmir and Levy413. This is not the place to ask medical questions!!

Yea.. definitely not ringworm. You would see a defined raised ring. The middle would be low. I am thinking L2 may have it, but definitely see a doctor. I know you may not want to go, but when messing with your face you should be especially careful. That is the most sensitive skin & you don't want to make things worse.

To give medical advise when you cannot SEE or get her medical history is DEPLOREABLE. TO tell someone they do not have something, when she MAY or MAY NOT is DEPLOREABLE.

These medical threads should be locked immediately and the OP shoudl just be told to take it to their family doctor not a bunch of photographers!

i totally disagree with this...

1) these problems are part of the everyday life that gives the forums entertainment. the advices that come from these threads are no different than snickering at the 'i stayed at a holiday inn express last night' commercials.

2) really, only an absolute idiot would chose the advice of a bunch of strange photographers over going to a doctor...

I concur wholeheartedly. Where is your head, girl?

Hi Nightshy,

The trick is to keep the area moisturized, preferably with something like HyroCortisone 10 or lanolin -- which you can get in the drugstore until you can get to a dermatologist for something stronger.

Be very careful about using hydro cortisone on the face. It's best to consult a doctor. To the OP, does the place itch? No itch, usually not ringworm. If it's not gone in a day or so, I'd aggravate the doc.

But... but... but... Skip! I was listening to you and my scores are getting better! Your strangeness really didn't bother me. Oh well, off for another shot of absolute. I only drink in the mornings when I'm shooting macro.

IMHO, it does no harm to go to the doctor having already heard, firsthand, from people who may have had the same symptoms at some point.

My doctor is younger than I, and he looks like skinny Elvis. Luckily, both of my children have told him this. They make me laugh! He's hella smart, incredibly knowledgable, and works way too much! My brother-in-law went to him with some simple symptoms, and he recognized a life-threatening problem, in effect, he saved his life!

IMHO, a visit to a doctor is a necessity. But what the heck, may as well show us your ills too.

Note: I'm not a photographer, but I have played one on a Joey Lawrence film.

Girl, like you said... THIS IS YOUR FACE!!!! Go see a doctor ASAP!!!

I'm going to have to say that it probably is ring worm. I've had it on my arm before. And, as was said before, it's not actually a worm. It's just a fungus, similar to athletes foot, but on other parts of your body. I would still recommend seeing a doctor, but you could also try the easy way out and get some creme OTC to try and take care of it too.

I'm not doctor, nor do I play one on TV, nor have I slept at a Holiday Inn lately, so, go see a doctor.
06/19/2007 11:21:19 AM · #40
Definitely not ringworm. Go see a dermatologist - though they mostly don't know anything either. Does it itch, burn, sting or anything like that? Looks like a wound more than an internal thing.

Some people are way to up-tight.

Does anyone know of an online doctor's forum where I can ask their advice on a photo I took recently?

(I hope that you are all wearing gloves while typing in this thread).

Some of those strange folks are doctors (or other medical professionals), who would also tell you that dermatological problems are among the hardest to diagnose, even when you can look at it in person. They'll also tell you to go see someone when the answer isn't completely obvious, and to not self-treat with anything before you go, since it may just mask the real problem (or make it worse).

Hydrocortisone is a steroid; useful for treating allergies and auto-immune diseases, but potentially dangerous if the cause is fungal, viral, or bacterial, as it lowers the body's local immune response.

No, but I know a doctor who's an excellent photographer ... I don't know if he has time to offer photographic advice to strangers though.

I'm not a doctor but I could clone it out using photoshop. I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

GO SEE A DOCTOR.

In that case, does anyone know a good mechanic that I can send a photo of my car engine to? It won't start any more ...

Wowza, haha, I think everyone needs a vacation or something!

I asked because we've all experienced things in life non-photography related, and since I RRRRRREALLY hate going to the doctor, I thought I'd ask the most varied group of people I know if they've experienced something like it and MAYBE that'd save me time and cold hands of the doctors. Or if it was something weird, you all (like you have) would direct me in the direction of the nearest physician.

I was never raised with the mentality of going to the doctor for every little scrape and mutant alien jock strap imprint on your face. I'm sorry I made people uncomfortable. I'm really not as stupid as some of you think I am, we were just raised differently is all :)

SO anyway, back to my face. It doesn't itch at all. And I didn't even notice it there, but when I touch it, it burns. It's not really dry or scabby to the touch. And the red part is like an imprint, not raised.

Go ahead and send it to me, along with your CC number so I can send the bill to you for the estimate.
