I have been trying to think up some good places to visit that are ummm visually inspiring but so far only a few come to mind. Are there any Sydney people here who want to share their photo hotspots and want to recommend a place worth checking out? Obviously the Harbour and the city itself are full of great spots but I'm also looking for anything in the metropolitan area that have a great view or pretty much anything. Golf courses, roads, buildings, parks, your next door neighbour... Would be nice to see a list from different people. Some examples:

Taronga Zoo
Chinese Gardens
Darling Harbour
Blue Mountains (bit far)

If your not from Sydney feel free to share any places also :)

Sorry - It's been years since I lived there but some thoughts.....

Just over the north shore [btw is Luna park on or off now days?] is good but if you can get into the buildings along the freeway it's amazing. I used to regularly go to one of the IT building on the 20-something floor and the view was just amazing from reception [the freeway curves around and you get the bridge at 11-to-5 on a clock with the city in the background - the image is burnt into my brain but unfortunately not film :-(].

Fort Deninson (sp?) has some cool views. Certainly worth a thought. There is another little island that I have been to and I cannot remember the name... but was similar place.

Bare Island (La Perouse) is certainly worth a look [maybe during the week if you can] - It's an old fort with guns and bunkers and stuff.

There are the various national parks - Lang Cove, Ku-Ring-Gai (sp?) and North Heads is not bad either.

There is a golf course in the eastern burbs (near the airport) that has some great views of the coast - used to drive past it all the time going to Maroubra from the south but no idea of the name since I ain't a golpher :-)

Thought about catching the cat up the river to Parramatta? Some decent stuff along the way. [I assume it's still running but not 100% sure]. Parra has some interesting stuff as far as people watching but not what you sound like you are after.

You have this but.... Taronga has some of the best views of the city - and where else can you get African animals in the foreground :-) Certainly worth the trip! The area around the three sisters is cool - cable car, cog railway and the area is just amazing - just make sure you do some of the walks and get off the tourist trap path.... the pains in the legs from the hills will go away eventually :-)

Anyway.... Just some thoughts off the top of my head.... Some days I miss Syd :-(

Thanks robs, definitely some cool places there worth checking out. Luna Park is always an on and off thing, i have to check the website everytime to see if they have closed or re-opened for the 100th time. Looks like its open this time. And yeah i have been in some city buildings with great views of roads/traffic and the glebe island bridge, I don't know if i can just walk into any building i want, and walk behind the receptionist's desk and say 'excuse me just wanna take a pic out of your window... can i pull the blinds for a sec'

La Perouse is a great location, was there not long ago... gotta check that out again. And if that golf course near the airport is the one where you have to cross a highway to tee off on the 9th hole then i heard that was great too. I haven't played there before tho. Bondi beach in winter is a ghost town as i saw in the paper today :P but that reminds me, Manly has a nice looking beach.

I guess you mean Pinchgut Island.

Fort Denison is on Pinchgut Island... (The mini alcatraz in Sydney Harbour). The other islands could be either Shark Island, Clark Island, Rodd Island or Goat Island.

Clark Island in the Harbour is good.

Another vote for the Rocks (*) (can get some good moody B&W shots there, particularly if it's been raining), La Perouse and Taronga Zoo too.

Other ideas (some I've done, some I plan to do):
Gore Hill cemetery
Japanese Gardens at Auburn
Bicentennial Park/Olympic Park precinct (*)
Royal Botanic Gardens (*)
Waverley cemetery
Darling Harbour (*)
North Head
South Head
Spit Bridge - Manly walk

Note that there are restrictions on professional photographers for the asterisked locations; even if you are an amateur, it can be worth speaking to the photography/filming contacts to confirm everything is ok, it'll be much easier if/when security questions you, particularly if you take a tripod.

Another place to visit, not necessarily for photography, is the Natural History Museum.

-Any where near the Opera House. For architecture and people.
-Kings Cross at night. For the lights and people.
-China town. Shops, architecture and people.
-One of my best memories of Sidney, was climbing the Harbor bridge.
You can not take cameras up with you. But I guarantee you will
remember the experience for many years.
