Never stated I use, Used, or have ever touched a K10D. I however once felt up a K100D lmao.
I have experience using both point and shoots and dSLR's that shoot RAW. I use a Canon Rebel XTi when it is made avaliable to me. And My old Fuji shoots raw in which I always chose to use. High end cameras dont make good jpegs its a simple fact all i was saying, good jpeg processing comes mostly from cameras designed for the consumer.
You cant just throw an algorithim from another camera model at it. It requires its sensor has its own issues, its own distinct mosaic output. Putting attention to it costs development time. If its not aimed at a market that needs it they wont spend money on it.
But as i said i never claimed that i use or used a K10D.

There are other sites and you might want to find the one i was looking at they went over a sensor isue dpreview didnt cover.

You list it in your profile?? You state facts about the camera, yet you haven't actually used one? I tried both before buying the K100D and as I have said more than once in this post, the K10D is still a camera I would buy or a newer version. My only point all through this increasingly personal, and boring thread, is what prompted my decision at the time I bought my camera.
I said all I want to on the issue, as far as I am concerned, it is finished!! |

The K10D is a DSLR, and it is not question of whether the user chooses to use RAW or jpeg, both are part of the overall package. There should be comparision of the higher price camera which purports to offer superior performance, should at least match the lower priced camera.
And, a K10D is designed to work in the same area. In fact most higher priced DSLRs offer both RAW and jpeg. Canon and Nikon both offer RAW with jpeg embedded or the option to shot just RAW or just jpeg. As does the K10D and the K100D.
I suggest you contact DPReview and inform them that their review on the K10D is misleading and inaccurate. I am sure they would be more than happy to correct their glaring error. |
DPReview has been a source of biased reviews for a hell of a long time now. Their DS review was panned by just about everyone because it focused on reviewing the camera in a certain mode that just about nobody uses.
Look, it's not *elitist* to know that Pentax offers the K10D to a different demographic than the K100D. It's just plain fact. It's a higher-end camera designed for people that want more out of one. Fact. Not elitism. Elitism would be saying "you can't own a K10D, you suck". Which I fully don't support.
When it comes to reviews vs. real life practical application.. I'll take the practical application every time. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH K10D JPEGs. This is from practical application. This is from *experience*.
I never meant in any way to suggest that you are not capable with a camera or DSLR. All I'm trying to do is counter your unsubstantiated claims that the K10D cannot perform in jpg. It is a claim that is utterly untrue... and this is from a guy that uses one. |

As a user of Canon and Nikon and now Pentax, what I will say is this. They all can produce very fine images, suitable for publication. My image at the next "5th International Festival of Fashion Photography" in Cannes , France will be a 3.5 x 5 meter image shot on the Pentax K10D. However the two years prior to this up and coming exhibition were shot with the Canon 1D Mkll and the Canon 20D. The bottom line. Use great glass shoot in Raw and know the support your image will be on or in.
The K10D is as good as the Nikon D200 and Canon 30D or for that matter the 1D Mklll and the next generation will be as good as the best there is out there. But then again so will Canon and Nikon..Work on your craft, the camera's available will be able to deliver in truck loads. But will you?

At last, Artyste and benjikanhave come out and spoken out for the K10D. I needed people who have used this camera to confirm my first opinions. I now need to gather together the money to get the K10D.
However, I will still be keeping an eye out for the newer model :))
This is a long drawn out post that has been dogged by bitching and edginess. But I think at last there is an answer. I always thought the K10D was a match for Canon and Nikon, but I wanted to see just how close it was. The hardest part was deep inside I liked the K10D, but doubt clouded my judgement, but hey, if I get a K10D, I will also own a K100D as a backup!!
So, my shopping list for the future is a K10D or...the new model :)

Well, I'm just bitching that it seems people have to find *something* to bitch about instead of learning to use any camera to its full potential and feel the need to 100% crop pixel peep instead of focusing on actual photography...
blows my mind. |
I couldn't agree more. The time some people spend talking about the gear rather than using it is astounding. It is the same on the music gear forums as well. This pre-amp will get you the hit and another won't etc...
Oh well..Live and learn!

Perhaps you would care to quote my last post on this topic?? I stated quite clearly that despite any 'problems' with the K10D, I would still buy one and use it, let's keep things in context.
There are plenty of people out there who maybe considering buying a K10D and will find this post informative. If fact can be separated from myth, then we all benefit. |
