It's not my place to judge any cameras, since I owned a few, good or bad, and got pretty good results, but never got into mechanical and physical details.
My overall view is that, even though camera is very important, talent is also play a huge role on good pictures with less capacity machines (no offence to anyone here please)
So, I only wonder, who could dig out gorgeous pictures from machines we never thought possible.
Here is my first one. Not a bad camera to start with, but picture sure looks a bit better than what I would expect to see :)
...anyone? |

What you talkin' 'bout, Willis?
ETA: I think in photography talent beats any piece of hardware. Any kind of camera can produce great images, but a serious limitation is how big you can print those. Am I understanding this thread correctly?? time to go to bed...

No no... nothing to do with actual print size...
I was just wondering if any of you could pin-point some very good pictures taken by lesser quility cameras like camera-phones or something.
anyway, I thought this would be a challenging threat anyway, not everyone could spend time and dig for those pictures... I was just wondering. Maybe I find a few and post here later myself ;) |

My mind is drawing a blank, but we've had at least one blue ribbon shot taken with a cell phone. |

a lucky shot from me taken with a little camera that performed well beyond its megapixels.

Taken with my first digital camera, a Fujifilm 2800Z. I purchased it on Ebay for about $100 or so. This was taken within the first week of getting it, no editing because I did not have a clue about that stuff. I was shooting the storm clouds, I didnât have a tripod, so I rested the camera on the top of my white truck. There has never been a lake here, it is the reflection of the clouds off the truck.
This is the photo that started all of this mess, and now has cost me thousands, and Iâm sure it will cost me thousands more before itâs all over.
I have a printed copy of this 2MP picture at 8â by10â in my living room and it looks like it was taken with a much larger MP camera, its perfect.
PS. please excuse the graininess, this is before I knew about JPEG, and what happens when you mess with them too muchâ¦

Taken with the 3MP S30 after realizing we had forgotten my camera on a trip to Crater Lake and surrounding areas. |

This shot came from a little 2-3MP Fuji P&S. It frustrated the heck out of me because I believed I had no control. Now, of course, I realize that the scene choices (it had one or two) were really minimal controls.
Shot taken in the mountains near Jackson, Wy.

3.2 Mp Fuji FinePix:
Actually one of the best macro cameras I have tried; easy-to-focus in manual (rare for a P&S) and of course terrific DOF because of the small sensor/short focal length which translates into very small physical aperture size with a hand-holdable f/stop-shutter speed combo.

Not sure how you're defining "little," but my one ribbon was with a 5MP camera:
In fact, all of my top 5 scores were taken with point and shoots.

Very nice work, all of you. What you are doing here right now is encouraging others to take more pictures and submit their work. This shows we don't necessarily need expensive cameras to enter to challenges, or take dazzling pictures, but little luck and some work would do the job.
Thanks and please keep showing off your print-worthy pictures that are taking with ânot so top of the lineâ cameras :) |

I love this photo. It got a blue ribbon in '03 and was taken with a Fuji S602z - a 3MP camera. |

thats very cool, it does look like a lake. Though once you said that it was your truck i could see it, but seeing it for the first time you'd never be able to tell. |

I have a picture in my phone that would put my current PB to utter shame. Unfortunately I have no way to transfer it to my computer. Makes it seem like I'm lying, but maybe I'll take a picture of the picture on my phone.. It would REALLY make me happy to see it in my portfolio.. |

Does your phone service allow you to email photos? If so, you could email it to yourself and then upload it. It would be fun to see it.

Took this with my 6+ year old 2MP Olympus D490; handheld, auto-everything, it almost pulled a six in the Transitions challenge.
