Hello!
This was my submission. I've heard many gripes about ppl submitting pix of their kids into challenges and thought that i might've gotten marked down for doing so. This is one that I would've submitted had that stinkin leaf not been in the way... titled "Counting Koi"

My second choice...

This one has a better view of the fish but the leaves are more blown.

I'm surprised the submission did as good as it did... only one 1!

Just wondering if you guys think I chose the right pic to submit?

Hi Kali,
I wouldn't worry so much about submitting kid pics if they're good pictures unto themselves - you may notice the #1 favourite picture of all time on this site is one of a kid:

I think you chose the right one to submit, exactly for the reasons you stated in your own analysis. Using a polarizing filter on the one you DID submit would have done wonders for the visibility of the fish as well - used properly can reduce the glare a ton.

Counting Koi is a perfect title for that one as well.

Aloha,

Pedro

I really like the one you submitted, as well as #1. Children pictures do get annoying, but not if they're enhancing the image/theme. I really liked this one:

Kali, not that I don't like kids but I really like the one you submitted the most. :)

A cheap cheat is to hold some polarizing sunglasses in front of the lens. not the easiest thing to manouever, but it works. I tried it for the first time last weekend, and it turned out great.

Well lets see it then... Once long long ago I tried it thru the tint of a truck bed shell for a blazing bright sunset.

In order for the polarizing effect you need the ability to rotate the lens...so i guess if you're strong enough to rotate the truck... :)

giddy up.

Um... I guess I'm not understanding polarization here. Rotate the lens? front and back?

well, you dont have to rotate the lens itself. at least not with any I've seen.

usually the polarizer filter is made of 2 moving parts, one of which stays still and attaches to the camera lens, and the other you turn to fine tune the polarizing effect.

'Zackly right Mag, thanks. here's a pretty good link if you want to learn a bit from Megapixel.net. It explains it far better than i could.

Cool thanX for the link Pedro.

Here's my tinted window sunset pic I mentioned.

Really toned things down. Man, I can't wait to get a better camera.
