I have a D50... I am in the deleama of upgrading to a to a D200 but I wonder too if I should wait till the next gen. camera bodies to come out. I guess I am not the only going crazy.
I am going (try) to wait myself! |

Yes, any AI or AIS spec lens (any Nikon lens made since 1977) can be used with full functionality. Non-AI lenses (pre-77) can not be used unless they have been converted to AI. You first dial in the focal length and max aperture and the lens will even show up in the EXIF data.
edit to add:
A great addition to the 18-70 kit lens is the Nikon Series E 70-150mm f3.5. Although is was built as an economy lens (still better quality than most today), it's optics are quite impressive, and it is small enough to fit into a big pocket.

Well thanks to everyone who contribute in giving intelligible answers. I am gonna go for the D200. The functionality of the body is way higher than any other body's cameras that I have been playing with. The D80 seems to be a little bit too small for me (smaller than the D70*. Nikon was well in advance when they release the D200.
Max
* I am not saying that smaller means worse, the D80 just does not fit the same as the D70 in my hand. |

You are making a great choice. I went with the 200 over the 80 for basically the same reason. The size. That and I was offered a sweet deal. I had a D-50 before that which I gladly gave full custody of to my wife once I got the 200. She has small hands so 50 is a perfect fit for her.
