If you earnestly believe that, then I fear you have a great deal of learning to do as you meander down life's paths.

Casting aspersions on individuals, engaging in character assassination, and questioning their integrity is truly not the type of that will garner a favourable response from me, and I would dare say probably legions of others.

I wish you well in your travels within DPC and do hope that you will learn a great deal from all the wonderful people in here.

Ray

then your kinda a hypocrit sir. saying that you must respect peoples point of views then saying you dont respect mine. also saying i am commeting character assination when I have never pointed my finger or named names that sort of offend me.Thanks for the best wishes and back at ya!

First of all I would hasten to point out this little ditty: "... must then respect my point of view of thinking those people are "bum licks" .." is yours not mine, and that I have not wavered in my up-front disdain for the comment, hence I surely cannot be viewed as a hypocrite.

Secondly, you truly are engaged in character assassination when you refer to the collective as "Bum licks" and I couldn't give a rat's behind if my bringing that to your attention offends you or not.

I do respect the fact that your referred to me as Sir, it does demonstrate that you have a modicum of respect for your elders.

Have a great day.

Ray

No comment is better than a forced comment.

If you don't feel something from the image, why bother to comment.

I blame a lot of those 1-2 votes on what I call the nude syndrome. It doesn't necessarily have to be a nude shot. But many 1-2 voters bash (try to kill) photos because they don't like the subject matter. Nudes get a lot of those votes, but so do landscapes, children, dogs, flowers, water drops.

I don't think it's right to vote like that, but have quit condemning those that do, because of this: I give (or should say gave) a lot of 9-10 votes because I liked the subject matter... mostly nudes :-)

Either way, forcing commenting isn't going to change those voting habits. It's going to either make 4 the new one or it's going to stop people from voting.

Add to that list religion and national flags.

The main reason I often don't comment on the shots I score lower is that I've gotten tired of pm's telling me I'm wrong by having a different opinion and should rethink my vote.
I do leave comments if I think they've really tried and need help, but often it's pretty obvious that someone's trying either for the brown or merely shock value. Those I don't waste my time with.

I agree Bee, I'm not a big fan of getting those pm's either. I'm coming around to the idea that it's better to use the entire voting scale to better describe images instead of sticking with numbers 4-8. Limiting to these numbers severely limits the accuracy of voting.

Also, I know that I have received a lot of 1's that I, of course, didn't agree with, but didn't mind the tens that i received that were just as undeserved. In the end, the high number of votes is what ensures that each picture truly is rated fairly accurately (statistical law). If we were to reduce the number of votes to 50 instead of 300 for each picture, you are increasing the volatility of the scores.

I can't believe I've written this much about such a ridiculous idea... :)

Just make the 1, 2 and 3 bars on the vote graph clicky link to the names of those that cast them. Forget the required comment thing. Shouldn't require voters to leave a comment saying they think your shot sucks. Put the onus on the photog to follow up if they really want to hear what should already be obvious.
