Did you shoot in RAW? You may need to update ACR.

If you put it back into the camera can you use the playback function to view them? If so, the images are alright. If this is the case try to copy the files into a directory on your hard drive and see if you can open them there. It's always best to open the files from the HD, not the memory card.

I stil dont understand why it didnt open it up in Elements 5.0? It usually will open up Raw files, especially from my D50. Is this a sign I need to buy a Raw converter or something? |

No you need to download the Adobe Camera Raw update. The raw file from the D50 is not the same as the D80. The D80 is newer it uses a new "format", it encodes things different.
If you like you can use nikon picture project, or you can just goto adobe and download ACR 3.6 3.7 or i believe 4.0 works on elements 5.
The newer the better. |

I had the same problem with PSE 5.0. I had to open the RAW files in the editing program that came with my camera, made the WB adjustments in there, then converted to a PSD file to do the rest of my editing in elements.
Sounds like there may be a patch from adobe so PSE 5 can read RAW directly, which would be great. Have to hunt around for that link.
ETA - no more hunting. Thanks RMS!
