the Canon 85mm 1.8, seen some amazing images taken with that lens*. It arrive on Saturday hopefully..
The 2nd lens I have purchased out of my Shutterstock earnings.
The first lens I bought was the 70-200 f2.8, but that took a bit longer to earn the $$$ for.
Not bad for a tiny portfolio.

You'll love it. If and when I ever go full frame, it will be the first lens on my list.
it's a stellar peice of work. I used one for a few weeks when I first got the 30D |

OK, sorry about the boring dog shot, nothing around here other than kids, who are not in a "being photographed" mood.
DOF is super thin, guess I am gonna have to be careful when using this lens.
Nie build quality, I have the 50mm 1.8 and this is far superior.

| Depth of field IS superthin but I think it's amazing! I love this type of photography and how it forces focus to a particular part of the subject. Have fun with the new lens! I expect we'll see the results in a challenge soon? |

Yeah, if you are like me, you will be so spoiled by the results that you will probably want to huck your 50mm f/1.8 against a wall.
I just sold my f/1.8 and went to the f/1.4 USM version and my satisfaction level is MUCH higher.
Of course, you will still want to shoot arund f/2.8+ in most cases for sharpness sake, but being able to go down to f/1.8 is great.
I read on photozone.de that the type of USM motor in the 85mm f/1.8 is slightly superior to the type of USM motor in the 50mm f/1.4. this only really shows up in focusing speed apparently. So enjoy that lightning AF response. (made with REAL LIGHTNING ;0) |

I took note of that lens when I saw JL's India portfolio. I assume he played with the images a bit but you can tell that the sharpness and contrast achieved by the lens are there.
On the full-frame, 5D...it looks like magic.
Have fun. |

| So what is the link to your SS folio, Mark? I'd be interested to see your work therein. |

Its in the initial post...
However HERE IT IS AGAIN......
Somethihng I forgot to mention was I was quite an early member of Shutterstock so I have a big team of referred 'togs and I can make a few $$$ out of them each day, so the money made isnt purely from sales of my photos.. also, I get the higher rate as I have made more than $500 from photo sales, so I get a WHOPPING $0.30 per download. :-)

The 85 1.8 is ridiculous...probably one of my favorite lenses.
DOF control is sick. You can pretty much get the eyes in focus and have the tip of the nose, and even the eyebrows out of focus and ears, etc if you wanted.
Does Canon have a 30 1.4...I think that would be fun to play with as well. |

Canon has a 35/1.4 L that is quite excellent. They also have a 24/1.4 L, another exceptional lens. |

Had a chance to try it out in a real-world environment this weekend.. I'm loving it, although squeezing off a few extra shots to make sure I nail the focus when opened upto 1.8
On that first pic I realise his eyes are not quite as sharp as hers, but its close enough to get away with.

Nice pics, are those both at F/1.8, and did you edit them much ?
I've been thinking about this lens for a while, seen some great stuff from it.
Cheers, Me.

Yup, both at 1.8, only editing was to up the saturation a tiny tiny bit on the full length shot. Other than that the rest was left to Team Canon :-)
Seriously we had amazing light on the day, constantly changing from bright, to dark, to mid-range.. The light was reflecting off the skin perfectly, you couldn't wish for better conditions, or for a better Bride & Groom, amazing chilled out people and real nice to boot. One of the best weddings I have done. |
