Okay, I understand about crop factor, so my 17-50 is the equivalent of 26-75 in 35 mm film terms. No problem.

But for lenses made for digital cameras, the image circle is smaller, right? So there's no effective crop factor, right?

But do they label them still taking into account the crop factor or not?

For Nikon, those are DX lenses, right?

So would a 50mm DX lens really be like a 50mm film lens, or would it still be like a 75mm film lens?

No its still the same. The image circle has nothing todo with focal length.
SLR lenses are labled as actual. Not converted.

WHile the Nikon's are 1.5, Canons currently for the APS-C are 1.6x. Its all todo with the exact sensor size.

---------------
The DX lenses dont cover the area of a full image frame. They do cover enough to cover the APS-C sized sensor. This allows the lense to be smaller and it doesnt hurt anyone thats not using a full frame sensor.

No.. the *crop* factor still applies. It just means that if the lens was used on a full-frame sensor or on 35mm film, you'd get vignetting because the image circle would be focused on the smaller area.

At least that's how I understand it.
