I put together an updated tutorial. It references a few yet-to-come mini-features so as soon as those are live, this should be good to go. |
You suck. |

Errr ... I wanted to refer someone to the tutorial just now, but the whole section on posting thumbnails of DPC images is badly out of date. Could someone on SC please update it?

Wanna make it easier for them and recommend a rewrite? :) |

Well eug not like its the first time they asked for a rewrite and wont be the last till its done.
But for the guy who asked about updates for now quoting Mk from page 4 of this very thread.
The entire thing needs a bit of a freshy... I think someone mentioned that someone else (whos asking) aught to write it themselves and submit it... cant remember?

That'd be my norm, but mk's last post said she had rewritten it already. Of course, that was last June. :)

She was also seen talking to her self... Witness:

I understand how to make thumbs of images hosted on DPC and I understand how to post an image to a forum from an outside web address; however, I still don't understand how to post a thumb w/link to an outside photo without having a pre-made thumb image available.
Can DPC forums create a thumb of an outside image using the url function?
For example, if I want to show you all this image as a thumbnail that's clickable to the original, without having a thumb pre-created, what would i do?

Given that you've got thumbnail versions in that same dir as the image, you can do it like this:
[ url=//www.ariellehaze.com/photos/albums/art/hdr/080301-Promenade.jpg][ img]//www.ariellehaze.com/photos/albums/art/hdr/tn-080301-Promenade.jpg[/img][/url]
which when you remove the spaces from inside the [ img] and [ url] tags, you get:
IE create a normal link to your fullsize image, then replace the text with the img tags for the thumbnailsize one

That's great for images that i do have a thumbnail size of, but what if I do not. For instance, what if there's an amazing image I see online that I want to share and ask questions about... but there is no thumb available - like if I find something on google images, but want to bring up the technique here in a forum to discuss how the photog might have done it...
how then, would i create a thumb in the forum, if there is no thumb of that image? That's what I was asking. I guess I used a bad example.

If there's no thumb then you post the link. There is nothing magic. The reason the thumb tags work for images on this site is 1) the image exists on this site; and 2) there is a thumbnail image. Thumbnail images are not created on the fly. |

I'd just like to be able to put a caption under a thumb. I assemble all of the Team Suck entries each rollover, and it'd be sweet to be able to put the photographer's name, like "[ user]meyers[/user]", as part of the posted thumb.
Edit: I could imagine the syntax looking like this: [ thumb caption="[ user]meyers[/user]"]123456[/thumb]
