there once was a lady that was asked to do a photoshoot for a friend that after years of marriage and children had not acquired her high school diploma but now has her GED. In enters the condescending family member with a Canon Rebel in hand with the strap removed and only a hand strap attached. She asks me, what are you shooting with and I say nothing other than this Fuji Finepix S9000 that is classified as a P&S but has the ability to shoot in RAW and has a SLR function as well. And she says..no..are you shooting with film or digital. I told her digital and added is there any better way. And then she goes on to tell me how much to charge for photoshoots and how to get children and adults to pose. I tell her that I do not shoot for money that I shoot for the love of actually getting one photo out of 900 to actually look good. She says that I am in photography for the wrong reason. Wow, now I know everything about photography. As this family member exited the scene, I placed my flickr card in her possession and told her if she wanted to see some real photography then check out my site and if she had any questions on my techniques that I would be glad to help her out. My point that I wanted to convey to her is this "If you are in it for the money, then carry your broke a&* home." That's all, I do feel better everyday

Good rant, I'm sure a lot of people here can relate to scenarios like that. Funny part... the fact that she had to ask if your camera was film or digital after seeing it and you even telling her the camera's RAW abilities leads me to believe she doesn't know as much as she pretends. Good for you for standing your ground. |
