:-) It does look like a cheese grater! lol

The item itself does not have a power source and you don't really use it (like an appliance for example). It is on top of something else and one part of a bigger object.

No, there is no light that shines through it. Maybe some sunlight though.

It is still attached to what it is normally connected to. I'm not an expert in these things but I bet you can remove it if you want to. :-) I'm guessing it isn't removed too often though.

It's not round like a ball but it is rounded.

The circles/holes are approximately 1 inch/2.5 cm wide each.
