As discussed in this thread, I think that it would be cool if we could track the number of comments made in a specific challenge and award "achievement" ribbons for commenting on all of the images in a given challenge.
To get avoid giving out ribbons like this to the cut and paste crowd, there could also be a check mark like the "This comment was helpful" one to allow the photographer to at least acknowledge that the comment was valid. (i.e. not a comment like "cute" or "nice shot", or the dreaded "ok".) This would (possibly) encourage people to leave comments even if the photographer did not find it helpful. (maybe a checkmark that is on by default?)
If nothing else, this would free up Judi to take pictures instead of handing out ribbons. :)
As an aside, this is not a complaint about the number or type of comments I have received. I'm pretty happy with the constructive criticism I have gotten here, and have taken much of it to heart. (Someday, it might even show in my pictures!) :) |

why take away from the photography side of things?? getting ribbons for comments reminds me of the little kids who get stars for going potty training

:) I like the Scooby Doo stickers myself.
Seriously, I thought about this as well. . . The conclusion I came to was that this is also billed as a learning site, and most of the learning I have done here was as a result of comments left on my photos. |

100% is a lot of commenting if you mean to do it so it give the photographer something useful... maybe work it in bands so 50%+ 75%+ 100% or whatever so you have the blue red and yellow ribbons ;) |

If this was to be implemented, a minimum amount of words in a comment would have to assigned.
Most people would just put one single word down to just get through the commenting phase, and that would not be fair.
100 words or more or something type thing.
