Yeah, so now it's not a question of who gets the coveted Judi comment - but when... I got mine before I went to bed last night. =P
...but seriously, thanks Judi!

I am just trying to get everyone to start commenting...and get confidence from being able to say how they feel about an image...and maybe, just maybe...stop some of the whinging on challenges. |

I feel for you hon... I'm trying to get my comments made back up to twice my comments recieved. I let it get behind BECAUSE of a lot of the whining and now it's hard to get it back there...

My given and received are neck in neck right now, but I predict that the given will over take very soon. |

If someone came up to me in the street and showed me a photo...I would be obliged to say something...at least acknowledge it. I wouldn't just throw it away and walk away...would I?
If I am voting on an image...the vote has acknowledged that image...but the vote is anonymous...therefore the author doesn't fully realise what that image meant to me when I viewed it.
By commenting on it...I have at least looked at the image and found something (no matter how small or irrelevant) to say about that image. That image has therefore touched me in some way...good or bad. By commenting on it...I have acknowledged to the owner that I have seen it.
Come on guys....try and do some comments...and maybe grab a ribbon or two in the process.
BAMartin....you are wonderful...you are trying something that will make you a better person. Good for you girl. |

I, too, stopped commenting much a while back (3 years, maybe) because of the ingratitude of the recipients and sometimes I just don't feel like I have anything intelligent to say.
When clubjuggle did the comments for a cure thing, though, I really got into the critique club commenting. That helped me get back on track with voting and commenting. I am not delusional enough to think that I've got the (literally) days needed to vote and comment on 100% of the challenges, but I am trying to comment on all that I vote on.
Some, I have to skip because I look at it and honestly can't think of a thing to say. However, I try not to let myself skip more than 3; the fourth gets a comment no matter how unintelligble it may be.
edit to add: i don't know that the ingratitude is completely gone, BUT I did get more "thank you" pms for my comments on the free study than I have in the 5 years I have been here. That helps. :)

I have to admit, commenting on photos gives me the extra time to really look at the image, and I sometimes bump the score accordingly. |

Karmat....that fact is...you were burnt...and it hurt. But you are now trying. And that takes more guts then most on this site have.
Basically the way I see it....if a few people start commenting...and it doesn't matter if they say silly little things like 'Nice Photo' or 'Pretty Sky'...over time their confidence will build and their comments will lengthen to something more constructive. And then others will see that...and think..well that isn't so bad...I might try that.
And before long...lots of people are GIVING comments...lots of people are RECEIVING comments..and there are more people happy on this site...and less people unhappy.
Karmat...smile...you are doing a good thing. |

All you people have brought me smiles...I can't ask for anymore than that.

For the most part, I enter and if it scores well, great. I used to look for and enter what was fit the DPC recipe for wow. Then things changed inside me and became less worried about numbers and more about what I wanted in my permanent portfolio, as a signature to my world, my eyes, my thoughts, and of course, the scores took a big drop, as expected.
In the current Candid challenge however, seeing a sub-6 on this one bothers me. It's my 2nd favorite shot with my name on it to have ever been shared on this site. If it weren't for helping out my team members, I would have yanked it long ago.
I really no longer understand this place.

Brad...you are already a winner. You have brought so much to this site..and a lot of the time you go unnoticed. You get hammered on your images at times...and it hurts...but you have the balls to pick yourself up and keep going...and continue to help people in the process.
You have what many don't....so smile. |
