I always hear a lot of you talking about taking your cameras to work every day and all and I would love to do this. My question is, would the camera being in my car all day (in the trunk) affect the camera if at all? I don't want to leave it out there one day and then not have it work anymore. Any thoughts?

just a tip dont leave your camera in the car it may not be their one day, I have been a member here for years now I always have seen post here by other DPC'ers about their car or car trunk being broke into and cameras are stolen.
But besides it being stolen I would not want to leave my camera in the car when its really hot out, I would be scared of the heat doing something

Well ive seen tests where small USB flash drives will work afte rbeing left in the car all day but the plastic is affected pretty badly even though its visual impact is only slight.
I wouldnt leave it in the car. |

| I wouldn't leave an expensive camera in a car but I keep a disposable in the glove box in a soft sided lunch cooler. I rotate it out once a year I tried using them afterward a couple of times and they seem to be ok. There have been many other threads on the same subject here and usually in each one you'll find at least one person who puts their camera in a cooler to keep the temperature under control. |

They usualy say todo this for accidents and what not. Might grab a digital disposable for 15 bucks keep it in there should last quite a while.
Personally on that part of the subject is why i love having a 1.3 mp camera phone. The quality is so so but in broad daylight it does great and is what i used in my last accident. Never hurts to have a camera phone. |

I never thought about that. That's interesting, I would never do it every day, but it would work for a day at the beach or all day outing.
BTW, I live in Houston and fried a camera because of car heat. It is just way too hot in a car. |

Exactly why I keep it in there. I don't have a cell let alone one with a camera so that plus the disposable doesn't require batteries makes it suitable for the purpose. I think I paid $3-4 for the one that's in there now. |

I have heard of people doing this also, even adding a small zip-top bag of ice under a towel on the bottom to help keep the temp down. In the trunk of the car would probably fair better than the front and would also be out of sight. Really if I am going through the trouble of bringing it to work I'm gonna bring it inside where I can have better control over it....then the only thing I have to worry about is the fact that it is so cold in here that I have to wait for the camera to warm up and defog once I go back outside...can't win for losing lol. |

| The additional benefit to storing your camera in a cooler is that not many people out there are eager to steal your picnic. Your clearly identifiable camera bag on the other hand... |

The thing is that I'm almost more confident of the camera being in the trunk of my car than I would leaving it at my desk. Security is quite tight here and the parking lot is fairly locked down. I just always see things that I think would make a great shot on the way home and wish I had my camera with me at those times. Guess I'll just leave it at home, oh well.

I would say if u can kep it under 125 degrees your okay. CD's melt beyond that temperature. The dash of a car in summer time can reach 200 degree's. But thats only the sun exposed part. |

| When I bring my camera to work, I simply keep it in my desk drawer, locked. |

I take my camera just about everywhere with me, but I NEVER leave it in the car, even for a few minutes. YES, that means sometimes I'm carrying a camera in Wal-Mart or the grocery store, etc.. I worry far more about theft than heat, but Florida is very hot most of the year so heat would be an issue as well.

| Don't believe for a minute that your car or truck door locks will protect anything. As well as from personal experience with breakends to my truck a few times, the news channels on tv and in the newspaper keep running stories on how easy it is to break in. Thanks CNN for recruiting more car burglars! Even in the newest Ford, Chevy and Dodge pickup trucks it takes less than 5 seconds to breakin keaving no sign of forced entry. In a car the trunk may be the safest place to leave things. |

I have a temperature gauge inside my car out of the suns ray's. Yesterday, it was 85 and sunny. Got in my car and the gauge read 106 degrees (gauge is out of sun's rays).
Since I own a Trailblazer, there is no 'trunk'. There's no place I could keep a camera/bag that wouldn't be hit by the sun sometime during the day. Which means it would get hotter than that. I do have a P&S that I have next to the temp. gauge and it hasn't failed me yet.
Added: I wouldn't mind keeping it in my car when I go to work only, but am more worried about the heat.

That's exactly how I feel. Like I said, security is pretty tight around here these days. I just don't want a baked camera when I leave to go home one day. I should get a temp gauge and put it in the trunk to see how hot it gets one of these days. I have all kinds of other electronics in there (amplifier, crossover, subwoofer, etc..) that work just fine day after day, but they are all designed to handle the heat of a hot car.
