My Pentax K10D will not work in shutter or aperture priority modes. For example, if I use auto exposure I get a reading of 1/1000 sec and F/8 (and get a good exposure). Switch over to shutter priority and set on 1/1000 sec. it locks the f-stop wide open (lens used was at f/5.6). If I go over to aperture priority and set at F/8, I get a shutter speed right around 1/60 sec. All this in bright sunlight.

Anybody have any ideas what the heck is wrong? Thought I'd check here before calling Pentax.

edit for spelling

does your camera on auto switch the ISO as well? If so when you switch to Ap or Sh priority the camera goes to what ISO you choose for it, which may be lower than what the camera is choosing in auto. Just an idea.

ISO was set at 200. The problem is only in exposure modes.

Exposure compensation?

I'm pretty sure this is what is wrong. On auto, the camera will pick what ever ISO is pleases. Therefore, it could potentialy be at 1600 ISO, and therefore when you switch to aperture or shutter priority at 200 ISO (or what ever you set it at), the shutter and aperature values change.

I figured out the problem and was coming back on to report that I'm a moron and wasn't looking at the exposure compensation. When I reset it, it worked fine.

And the ISO never changed. I can set the ISO, leave it alone, and then play with the exposure settings without affecting the ISO.

One of my many "I'm an idiot" problems.
