Went into the city (Toronto) for a couple of days vacation. Was having a great time, taking tons of shots, architecture (even had some cool right angle shots imo), capture the moment type shots, and just shots of me and my friends. Second day into the trip, I put my camera down in its case for 5 second and next thing I know its gone, with all the pictures still on it. Man, things can such somtimes. |

It's never ceases to amaze me how you can ALWAYS guarantee that there's a thief around just when you don't need one and yet, when you need a cop... You have my sympathy. |

that does suck. probably doesn't do any good to file a police report, either.

I am truly sorry to hear about the loss of your camera. With the half million people at the Rolling Stones concert on Wednesday and the estimated one million visitors here this weekend for the Caribana festival, it attracts a lot of the criminal element into town too.
The police have been warning all week about pick-pockets and petty thief. So, it is too bad to hear that you were one of the victims and now add to the police statistics. It happened to me once in Vancouver with a Nikon SLR, so I know how it feels.
The only bright side is that you now get to research and plan to buy a new camera. Hopefully, your insurance will cover it - home or car - often have riders with a cap amount for just such a situation.

thanks for all the nice comments. Sadly though, it wasn't taken from the home or car, so I'm not sure the insurance will pay for it. |

Did you buy it with a credit card? Some of them will reimburse you for loss of an item purchased with their card.. including theft. |

Do not count your home ownership policy out yet. As mentioned, there is often a rider that may cover just such an event. It all depends on the policy, the deductible and the replacement value of the camera.
However, you may decide not to make a claim, even if there is a suitable rider, if the deductible is higher or near the value of what it would cost you to replace the same camera make and model.
