		| | I am planning on getting a family portait (I will be hiring someone) when we go to the beach this summer with 4 kids ranging in age from 7 months to 9 years. I can handle the kids pretty well, but I am looking for something out of the 'ordinary' for the family portrait. I don't think I want the khaki and white thing! If you got anything...anything at all to share...please do! |

		| | Bury the entire family up to their necks in sand. Put a big colorful hat and sunglasses on each.
Alternately lay them flat and bury them and give them some fanciful sand bodies. Mermaids, mermen, sea horses, starfish, and the like.

LOL...dig 5 big holes and bury the baby?? You know, this might work with the kids at least! I like it!

We are going to Orange Beach, Alabama.

One thing I have come up with is go ahead and go with the Khaki's and White and Blue, but then have Mom (ME...yes ME) holding a nice colorful kite (something to hide behind!!!) I am liking this more and more as I go on!

		| | I like to use a colorful beach umbrella- either as a backdrop or as a light diffuser ( it has to be a lighter, nylon type for that)- some nice light effects with color cast and how about some colorful beach toys- pails, shovels etc. for the kids- too casual?

Not too casual for us...in fact I like it! I am expecting my 1 year old and 7 year old to be a challenge, so I would be fine with them digging in the sand for the photo!

Anyone with some beach portrait samples that might be 'different?"

		| | How about taking the picture from up on a lifeguard chair. Have the family posed in a pattern (circle?) on the sand and get the overhead view. |

You may have to ask permission to use those "government structures". In the photo I took below, I was quickly approached by a beach patrol unit, asking me to stay off the structure. I was only up there for less than a minute before they approached me. :-(

Now this is in Orange County (specifically, Huntington Beach). The rules may be different in Alabama.

		| | Try to keep everyone from getting sunburned before the shoot.
