What are actuations? Or what do you mean?

If I put my camera on Tv which is the time mode, I can than actuate my shutter for as long as I hold the button. I don't know how to actuate it more than once for the same frame. Or I could actuate my flash more than once while the shutter is open.

sorry what i am saying is that people discuss how many times since they have owned their camera that they have hit the shutter...apparently a measure somewhat of when a camera is getting old

If you set your camera to not reset file numbering (eg set it to continuous) then you can judge by the file number of your latest photo how many actuations you've done. Since the shutters are only rated for a certain number of actuations you can get an idea of how close you are to the life of the camera barring any major maintenance.

Anybody know if there's a rated # for the Rebel XT. I've never seen a published number, is it a secret? I think I've seen 100,000 for the 5D, but nada for the Rebel XT.

I'm at about 13,000 on my Rebel XT in just over a year now.

I think it's around 25,000-30,000. I'm a little over 2,000 so I have a ways to go before I can get my 5D. :)
