I may be out of line here, but I find it sort of odd to find the need to sort of bribe members for comments. Are comments really a golden ring to achieve on this network? I mean it's great when we get them, without solicitation, often by members looking in the recent upload page, recent comments page, or just wandering through a gallery or portfolio.
Offering a 2 for 1 special seems sort of weird to me - kind of like an "I'll like you if you like me" sort of thing.

Nothing personal Shez, just sits kind of funny with me.

Oh I agree completely, but when it's done from the heart or with genuine, unsolicited intent of getting something in return. Kind of like a High School student body election - vote for me and I'll give you a cupcake.

Comments on this site are probably the single most important thing a member can get, next to favorites. They can be supportive, critical, good or bad, a means to get a pulse on your progress regarding the technicals, etc - but - when pushed into having to make comments because a deal was struck, then in a way, they become bought so to speak.

I had to think long and hard on making my reply to the post as I know it was going to rub some people the wrong way. I thought to myself "How would I have worded the same post?". A request for feedback concerning some new shots and / or prints would be fine in itself, with the caveat that I would try and do the same in return if requested, but no strings attached.

I am so sorry you feel this way.... as commenting is something I really do enjoy giving to as many people as possible.

Some people (me, for example), need an incentive or trigger, however minor or ultimately valueless, to break their inertia and get them to take action.

A good comment is a good comment, and I -- like everyone -- would like more. There are so many pictures here that it's hard to get comments on average or below-average pictures such as permeate my portfolio. A few minutes of my time is a reasonable trade.

Unlike votes, I see no harm in, nor reason to discourage, the "trading" of comments. Many people have offered one-for-one comments in the past, so it does seem the cost to the instigator has gone up a bit ...

Shez,

You ask, and you shall receive.

I've done one re-edit based on your suggestion...

Well Shez, gave this some thought and one, owe you an apology for as you say, "upsetting you, and taking away the joy in doing this simple gift of thanks". This was not my intent in any way, shape or form.
You are one giving person on this website and always there to add support for so many.

We could all use a nudge to get more active in the way of critiques, assistance with editing, comments - good or bad, and voting. I just don't care for the I'll give you 2 for your 1 kind of incentive. It's really bribery, though I don't really care for the word and feel it's a bit strong for use in this case.

You have a large following and honestly don't feel you need to dangle the carrot, and just ask for a favor for once. Those that know you and have been a recipient of your own kind words, would love to provide you with a chance to return a favor, without an "if" clause in it.

Maybe this would make more sense:

Hey everyone,
I just added some new Prints into my gallery, and would like to ask a favor of those that can spare some time. I'd really love to get some feedback on this new series and/or suggestions if you have them. If you have some that you would like feedback on, please let me know in this thread or by PM and I'll help where I can.

Here is a sample of them..... All Digital enhanced, and some are very bright and colorful, and the others more soft and silky colors.....

Thanks heaps,

No strings, no conditions, no enticement.
Just a hey, I could use a favor.

This post also serves as a bump for your thread.
