Okay, I'm sorry I helped this devolve into yet another thread about Leroy but let's try to get back to at least one of the actual topics of this thread. |

Just proving his lack of integrity point. Seriously, this is just another rant about DPC becoming a pile of shit. It's kind of hard to take seriously.
If DPC is such a bad place, leave it or actively do something to improve it. Bitching doesn't solve a thing. A this thread helped how?
Why don't we start a bitching about DPC forum section?
And now back to your regularly schedule bitchfest.

To the OP - I look at the front page after every challenge ends and I see HUGE TONS of talent. After almost every validation request we see integrity. If you read the forums (not the rants) you will see many instances of kindness, honesty and friendship. I think DPC, like any community is full of diversity -- but most of it only makes us better as a community.
Where are we going and how did I get in this hand-basket?

If I'm not mistaken, I think that is the topic at hand.
Mall-rats, right?
Is it that the site is different, or that the Seniors in the forums had to get used to the freshmen being around? Stupid freshmen, I've already played all those silly games, I wish they'd just get over themselves.
BTW - Anyone ever notice that Leroy is almost never the one to post the cheese pic? (or the cheese/boob pic) It's always other people but everyone still blames it on him. Hey, Leroy ain't perfect, but lets be fair here.
Also, the mall-rats always seem to be the most helpful to the newbies, IMO. Maybe it's just that the oldies are getting to long in the tooth to tolerate the same old questions, the same discussions, the same rants, aaaaaaalllll over again.
Many of them have also stopped entering challenges. And voting on challenges. Frankly, I think this contributes more to the degridation of DPC than anything else.
Who gives a crap about the forums and it's antics. The forums aren't the whole site. |

I agree. the people that bitch the most i rarely see helping others or making tutorials and what not. It seems like they want DPC to be their own special little secret like it was 5 years ago. Its like when some small rock band gets big and starts playing huge stadiums. the older fans walk around saying how much they hate all the "posers". never mind that with out all the posers the band would eventually not make any money and quit making music. anyone every heard of VAST? one of the best bands ever IMO but he didn't get the posers so the label dropped him and now he makes his own albums and sells them from his website. sure he is happy and his fans love having their own little band, but it makes me sad that many people that his music could touch will never hear it.
I feel the same way about DPC. sure sometimes a new person comes along that makes me cringe every time they post, but for that one person 10 new people come and I know that DPC will brighten thier photographic lives just a little bit. |

The site is different. I wasn't blaming any one group. When the number of people increases and the people involved change, the group dynamics change, the site changes. That's just how it is. A conversation you have with two other people is different than standing in a group of 100. I don't find any particular group to be more helpful than another. And some of us are still tolerating the same old questions, the same discussions, the same rants aaaaaaaall over again.
(My reference to Leroy had nothing to do with the overall status of the site.) |

Okay, hey, I wasn't here when it started, so yeah. In the beginning, Langdon created challenges and forums. Wonder who ate the apple in this story? :P |

Now, what the heck inspired me to check this thread just at this moment ... : (
Usually, I think I'm characterized as the one recommending the apple ... BTW: I think there were no apples in the Middle East in Biblical times -- the forbidden fruit was more likely an apricot or pomegranate (Punica granatum) ...

I'm new here and I'm amazed at the 'class, credibility, integrity, direction, talent, etc' Could you be a bit more specific (without naming names or singling people out)? |
He's talking about this person. |
Oh man, this is freakin FUNNY, I laughed until I almost fell out of my chair!!! great one!!!

Yes, it's true... DPC's character is gone :-(
He will return, though. I'd bet on it. |

Ya know, sometimes we just need to get it all out, and as Macrothing began his post, he is merely voicing his opinion...not all opinions are happy ones, but he also left a shout out to the "good" here at DPC.
A far as going after someones integrity, class and what have you, I couldn't care less what someone's name is or where they live. I'm going to look at their portfolio, commenting, how much voting they do and yes, forum activity then come to my conclusions that way. Macrothing has cast many votes, and in my opinion this is always a DPC asset, he's also done some great commenting.
Macrothing, just keep seeking the good, there's plenty to be found here and hang with that. Also keep up the voting and commenting, this is truly a great way to participate here at DPC.

If you want to see what's still fantastic about DPC, and *gasp* maybe even help to keep it that way, I recommend a few things:
1) Go read all of the new tutorials. I happen to know the author of two of the newest quite well. :)
2) Find something YOU know how to do and write a tutorial. It doesn't have to be long or involved - look at how short and single-topic my most recent one is, on field of view.
3) Join a DPL team when it's next offered. Not invited to a team? Make one. It's been an incredible experience the past few weeks discussing photos, ideas, and editing with Critical Mass, and I very much owe my one ribbon to my team's input.
4) Read the PS101 threads in the tips and tricks forums. Loads of good info in there. Then read the other info in that forum.
5) Write up a "how'd they do that" - you'd be amazed at what people don't know, so tell 'em!
6) Pledge not to buy into any of the numerous conspiracy theories about voting rings, cheaters, or the SC being aliens sent to devour our brains (well, okay, maybe that last one). Leave the job of monitoring the site to the SC and admins.
7) Assume goodwill before anything else, including, and most especially, on the part of the SC.
8) Vote. Comment. Rinse. Repeat.
9) Resolve never, ever to complain about people who voted 1-3 on your shot and people who commented in a way you didn't like (if it's offensive, hit the "report post" button, but otherwise, just ignore it).
10) Help newbies. Their questions are new to them. You were once new here, and you'll again be new somewhere, sometime.
Generally speaking, model what you want to see, play with people who do the same, and ignore the others.
Edited to add: 11) Go participate in threads like this one, where a whole bunch of people from random places around the world took time out of their lives to explain to someone how her shot fell short, enabling her to try again with more knowledge next time.
