dpc is, as i understands it, a cut-throat, no mercy community when it comes to challenge entries (on the whole, anyway). and this is why it is a GOOD place to learn.

yes, to learn to survive here or leave or live with bad scores. which means learn what the voters like and hone in on that. that doens't neccessarily make you a better photographer.
