I have some pictures that I shot at sun down and they are a little grainy for me. Before I up and buy Neat Image or Noise Ninja I want to see what my image looks like ran thru both.
Do I have any volunteers that would like to help me with this???

Go for the free trials first - each has their own approach. I personally like noise ninja better - took about 10 minutes to learn and really smoothes those pixels out. |

I hate how with Neat Image it tells me that the colors aren't good enough to work with. Noise Ninja never did that. I think I will dowload noise ninja tonight when I get home. |

Nothing that prevents you from determining the output or if you enjoy working with the software. |

Bo, I could re-download the trials but I don't want the files on my machine again. If I add it I want the full files and only one time. Sorry but that is just the way I run my machine.

Sorry I don't mean to be rude or anything but I knowing what I know about computers and how they work I am cautions about what and how I install things.

EBJones - Neat image seems to have a little better detail in the clouds right off the bat.... |

I agree, but I'm willing to bet that if you have a clue how to tweak the settings, (I don't) that the same results could be achieved with either program.
Not having a clue, and not having tried these programs side-by-side before I bought, I think that I'm happy with my decision now. :) |

By simply increasing the contrast a little, I got NNja to pretty much match the NI shot you posted...It didn't take much pushing of the sliders to get a pretty nice image. I imagine both work about the same.

okay so what I did here was I took 4 images, the original, one edited with Adobe photo deluxe and one edited with Noise Ninja and the last one edited with Neat image.
I did a 100% crop and adjusted the saturation on the yellows to 100%, blending mode set at normal.
This is what I see... I think that Adobe Photo Deluxe did a better job of actually blending the colors better and allowing the adjustments better. I'm not sure if you can tell that from one image with out actually doing it but just looking at the amount of blend from one image to the other APD it a wonderful job.
Now as far as noise goes, I really had a high hopes for Noise Ninja because I have always heard so much about it but never really paid attention until now. But the idea behind this whole skit was to see what program could handle the noise better. I have to give it up to Neat Image. Now all I have to do is buy the progam write an action for it so I don't smooth out everything and KA-BAM... Thanks you guys for all your work.
What do you guys think?
also I will add the neat image here in just a sec

Again, I think that Neat Image wins again. (Not, biased by the money I spent on it, am I? :)
I think this because it minimized the artifacting around the wires while maintaining the line of the red area in the sky. Adobe Photo Deluxe did a great job with the power lines, but lost a lot of detail in the sky, I think.
Still, It's a toss up between NN and NI. I think I based my decision on price difference and ease of use. (Either that, or I flipped a coin. I can't remember!) |

One last comment on Noise Ninja....From what I understand, NNja works best on the original image. It is designed to remove camera noise not processing noise. I don't know how Neat Image works, but maybe it works on the post processing image instead of the original? Not sure.
Anyway, I think part of it has to do with personal preference, where you do noise reduction in your processing work flow and what you like. I personally prefer to be a noisy Ninja rather than 'neato'.... |

I have used it and for me, I like it. I don't really know what i am doing but I've been able to get results that don't make it look over processed. And it's free!
